Youth Ministries are a vital and
growing part of the Wayne United Methodist Church. We offer two UMYF groups
(United Methodist Youth Fellowship) and we strive to offer both
fellowship and spiritual growth opportunities to our youth at various
times during every month.
Jr. High UMYF is for 7th & 8th graders.
This group usually meets once a month for a time of fun and fellowship. They
usually meet on a Sunday afternoon and do various projects that are fun and
entertaining as well as reaching out to help others.
Activities held in recent months include a
scavenger hunt that gathered things for Haven House ( a local shelter for abused
women and children), decorating cookies that were then delivered to shut-in
church members during the holiday season. The group also had a hay-rack ride and
hot dog roast, went bowling, and as a group, attended a talk given by Tom
Osborne, retired football coach from University of Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Sr. High UMYF is for 9th to 12th graders.
This group usually meets once a month. They try to schedule fun & fellowship
events and then try to work in a spiritual growth time or a mission project.
Activities held in recent months include a corn pick up, which helped raise
money to purchase food items to give to needy families. The group also went
skating in Sioux City, went bowling, and as a group, attended a talk given by
Tom Osborne, retired football coach from University of Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The youth just returned from an exciting trip
to Youth2003 which was held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
This event is held every four years and brings United Methodist youth together
from around the country and around the world. The 20+ hour bus ride got a
bit long but they kept themselves entertained and they totally enjoyed all that
Youth2003 had to offer.
