building committee update - august 20, 2009

On August 19 the Oneida County Planning and Zoning Committee agreed unanimously to issue a conditional use permit for the construction of our building addition. The committee worked hard to get everything together needed for the CUP process. With the issuance of the permit our architect, Joe Augitto of Archibello LLP, will be given the green light to begin drawing the construction plans for the project.

The current youth house will be demolished and removed from our building site by mid-September. The ground will be prepared and covered with straw to prevent freezing over the winter. This will enable us to begin construction in early spring 2010 with the permission of both the District Committee on Building and Location and our congregation.

building committee update - october 26, 2008

Last week the Building Committee met to discuss our building program in light of the nation's current economic crisis and the church's budget shortfall this year. Pastor Gary suggested, and the committee agreed, that we postpone our construction schedule from early spring 2009 to early spring 2010. The postponement will be reviewed every three months and if our situation changes the project may begin sooner.

The committee also decided to delay the production of the construction drawings for a year. The committee will pursue the acquisition of the needed conditional use permit.

The committee decided to extend the time for payment of pledges to the building program from three years to four years.

All monies given to the building program have been invested in secure certificates of deposit and will not be adversely affected by the problems on Wall Street.

building committee update - september 19, 2008

At our last meeting we reviewed and accepted a scope of services proposal from Joe Augitto for architectural services.  We are now reviewing a proposed contract from Joe which, if it is acceptable, will be forwarded to the Trustees for acceptance.

We developed a list of criteria for such things as audio/visual infrastructure in the multi-purpose room, the layout of the administrative offices, refinements to the Sunday school rooms and library, and the new nursery area for Rocking Horse Child Care Center.  We also discussed energy-saving possibilities that we hope can be incorporated into the final drawings.

Please feel free to share any concerns you may have with any building committee member, Holly Nash or Pastor Cole.

building committee update - september 5, 2008

Foltz & Associates are finishing up a survey of the property. Our building committee has put the final touches on the preliminary plans. The committee is now negotiating an architectural services contract with Archibello LLP for the construction drawings. The plans should be completed before Christmas 2008.

The committee is working with an energy consultant to make our building as energy efficient and "green" as possible.

Our goal is to break ground in the early spring of 2009 and dedicate the addition on Easter Sunday, 2010.

The cost of a fully-equipped-for-ministry building addition is estimated at $1,451,000. In addition the building committee has added $149,000 for unknown contingencies. Our capital campaign sought $1,600,000 so we could complete the project without a mortgage. We need roughly $300,000 to reach that goal. That amount is certainly achievable. Join with us in praying that we will receive gifts sufficient to pay for the whole project and build the addition without needing a mortgage.

news about the addition

David Hallock is designing state-of-the-art sound, video, and lighting systems for the multipurpose room. When installed we will be able to record and show video, offer concerts, present dramas, and conduct contemporary worship services in the multipurpose room.

Preliminary plans for the kitchen include a commercial dishwashing system, one or two ranges and a commercial refrigerator.

The multipurpose room will have a hearing assistance system installed.

The floor plan shown for the church offices is being modified to create a work room for the administrative assistant and restricted access to the other two offices.

The nursery and the conference room (B & A) will be combined into one bigger nursery.

As a part of the building addition the current entry doors for the sancuary will be moved to the back of the sanctuary. This will create a larger usable foyer area at the ramp door entrance.
