Posted  22nd October 2000
A January 1997 revival featured Rev. Doug McGuire as speaker.  Young Methodist Children's Association, 5th and 6th graders, began their year with a fellowship, a devotional breakfast, and a trip to Host Springs.  Joy Lowe was speaker at UMW Sunday.  It was ladies night at the February Methodist Men.  Joy Lowe and a men's quartet provided the program.  The UMW began collecting recipes for a new cookbook.  Following Palm Sunday services, an Easter Egg hunt and dinner on the grounds were held.  The Cantata was "Alive."  Ken Herren from Heifer Project was speaker at morning services on 20th April.  Scout Sunday was held on 27th April.

The missions workarea challenged the church to provide an "ark" for Heifer Project.  In May 1997, the church family enjoyed a picnic at the Children's Home OWL Project.  UMW celebrated "Momma Mai" with a covered dish supper featuring Italian dishes.  The children celebrated an end-of-school bash at Lincoln Civil Parish Park.  The Youth Hand Bell Choir from McFarlin UMC in Norman, Oklahoma, gave a concert.  Choir members stayed in church member's homes overnight.  Kingdom Kamp was held in late June.  VBS featured the theme "Noah and his Ark."  Youth kept a busy summer program with WAMY, Young Methodist Children's Association, devotional breakfasts, and pool parties.  The Senior High group sponsored an All-American Meal (hotdogs and apple pie) to raise money for their mission trip to Laredo, Texas.  The Junior High group held a car wash to raise money for their mission trip to Sager Brown.  The youth participated in the Weekend of the Cross local mission emphasis.  The Methodist Men invited the church to enjoy a watermelon cuttin' following the morning service on 10th August.  The youth enjoyed a back-to-school bash on the lake.  Both Junior and Senior Highs shared their summer mission experiences at the morning service on 17th August.

In September 1997, a women's weekday Bible study began a fall session.  Phil Wingeir-Rayo, our missionary in Cuba, visited Grace on 15th September.  During the fall, Sunday morning services featured "favorite" songs and "choir lite."  A church-wide tailgate was held before Tech homecoming.  The youth provided a jambalaya meal.  In November 1997, the youth participated in the ropes course at the OWL project.  A much anticipated chili cook off, held on 16th November, ended in a draw.

Advent activities included Hanging of the Greens, a family night with the children and youth providing a Christmas program, the distribution of baby blankets sown by church members, the UMW progressive dinner, singing Christmas cards, the Cantata, and the Candlelight and Communion Service.
