A
January 1997 revival featured Rev. Doug McGuire as speaker. Young
Methodist Children's Association, 5th and 6th graders, began their year
with a fellowship, a devotional breakfast, and a trip to Host
Springs.
Joy Lowe was speaker at UMW Sunday. It was ladies night at the
February
Methodist Men. Joy Lowe and a men's quartet provided the
program.
The UMW began collecting recipes for a new cookbook. Following
Palm
Sunday services, an Easter Egg hunt and dinner on the grounds were
held.
The Cantata was "Alive." Ken Herren from Heifer Project was
speaker
at morning services on 20th April. Scout Sunday was held on 27th
April.
The missions workarea
challenged the church
to provide an "ark" for Heifer Project. In May 1997, the church
family
enjoyed a picnic at the Children's Home OWL Project. UMW
celebrated
"Momma Mai" with a covered dish supper featuring Italian dishes.
The children celebrated an end-of-school bash at Lincoln Civil Parish
Park.
The Youth Hand Bell Choir from McFarlin UMC in Norman, Oklahoma, gave a
concert. Choir members stayed in church member's homes
overnight.
Kingdom Kamp was held in late June. VBS featured the theme "Noah
and his Ark." Youth kept a busy summer program with WAMY, Young
Methodist
Children's Association, devotional breakfasts, and pool parties.
The Senior High group sponsored an All-American Meal (hotdogs and apple
pie) to raise money for their mission trip to Laredo, Texas. The
Junior High group held a car wash to raise money for their mission trip
to Sager Brown. The youth participated in the Weekend of the
Cross
local mission emphasis. The Methodist Men invited the church to
enjoy
a watermelon cuttin' following the morning service on 10th
August.
The youth enjoyed a back-to-school bash on the lake. Both Junior
and Senior Highs shared their summer mission experiences at the morning
service on 17th August.
In September 1997, a women's
weekday Bible
study began a fall session. Phil Wingeir-Rayo, our missionary in
Cuba, visited Grace on 15th September. During the fall, Sunday
morning
services featured "favorite" songs and "choir lite." A
church-wide
tailgate was held before Tech homecoming. The youth provided a
jambalaya
meal. In November 1997, the youth participated in the ropes
course
at the OWL project. A much anticipated chili cook off, held on
16th
November, ended in a draw.
Advent activities included
Hanging of the Greens,
a family night with the children and youth providing a Christmas
program,
the distribution of baby blankets sown by church members, the UMW
progressive
dinner, singing Christmas cards, the Cantata, and the Candlelight and
Communion
Service.
