Posted  2nd July 2000
The recognition and installation of 1980 officials took place on Covenant Sunday, 6th January 1980.  Boy Scout Sunday was held on 10th February.  Scouts, leaders, and parents attended the morning service.  Rev. Doug Williams, chaplain at the Methodist Children's Home, brought the message.

A Lenten revival was held 2nd through 5th March 1980.  Rev. doug McGuire led the services.  Jane Ledbetter was the song leader.  Rev. Christie announced that he would leave the pastoral ministry and would begin a new form of ministry with the Office of Finance and Field Service of the UMC Board of Global Ministries.  The duties of pastor would be filled by Rev. Doug Williams until a new minister could be appointed at Annual Conference.  The Council on Ministries formed a Pastoral Care Committee to help Rev. Williams minister to the congregation.  On Palm Sunday, the Chancel Choir presented the Easter Cantata.  Following the service a luncheon was held to honour the Christies, confirmands, and the Chancel Choir.

In May, Ruby Nell Barker, Grace choir director for over 20 years resigned.  Little did she know then the number of times she would be called back into service with the choir.  Ralph Pierce served as interim director.  In August 1980, Gary Keen was employed as the new choir director.

In June 1980, Rev. Jim Humphreys, his wife, martha, and their children Jeff and Mindy moved to Ruston as the new parsonage family.

Directors of the 1980 Vacation Bible School were Mary Sheridan and Sue McFadden.  Rev. Humphreys began an Acolyte Ministry to assist in worship.  Twelve young people were consecrated for that ministry on 19th October 1980.

The 30th anniversary of Grace was celebrated on 30th November 1980.  Doug McGuire, founding pastor, brought the message.  A covered dish dinner was held following the service.  Jean Lay baked an anniversary cake for the occasion.

In December 1980, the Ruston Public High School Choir presented an evening Advent service, and the Chancel Choir presented the Christmas Cantata.  Christmas family night was held on the 21st and a candlelight service was held on Christmas Eve.  The official membership at the end of 1980 was 377.
