Posted  14th May 2000
In February 1974, the Boy Scouts and their families were honoured at Scout Sunday.  Later that month the UMYF held their annual chicken spaghetti supper.  That year the supper was take out only.

In March 1974, the Ruston Public High School choir contributed to the evening worship service.  The Administrative Board voted to make an in-depth study concerning major repairs to the church building and to gather facts about the growth of Ruston, parking problems, and Grace's future needs.  Ted Wilson, a Tech student, was hired as youth director.  The month ended with the Tech Wesley Foundation deputation team leading the evening service.

The Chancel Choir presented the Easter Cantata "No Greater Love" on Palm Sunday, 7th April.  On 24th April, Tim Cox received his Eagle Award.  Also in April 1974, the Junior High boys basketball team went undefeated and won the city league.  The 5th and 6th grade girls were 2nd place in their league.

In May 1974, the Administrative Board approved the support of Ray Holt, missionary to the Spanish speaking people in New Orleans.  Rev. and Mrs. Chris Andrews shared in a Sunday worship with a message and presentation dealing with their work at the East End Mission in London, England.  The Kentwood Youth Singers shared a concert on 28th May.

In July 1974, Rev. Lynch was appointed to serve at First UMC in Lafayette.  Rev. Leon Scott, wife Barbara, and children, Larry, Cindy, and Carol, came to Grace from Farmerville.  A church-wide Watermelon Social was sponsored by the Methodist Men to bid farewell to the Lynches.  A welcome reception for the Scotts was held the following week.

Mary Shankles began working as director of the Education Program.  The men's softball team won the city championship.  To alleviate the space and parking problems, an 8:00 am Sunday morning service was begun.  Christian Education Sunday was celebrated with a covered dish supper.

October 1974 saw the observance of Layman's Day.  Dr. Hal Barker presided at the service.  Many Grace men participated in the event.  Layman's Day kicked off a fall revival, 13th to 16th October.  A deputation team from the Wesley Foundation returned for the morning service on 10th November 1974.  In December 1974,  the Chancel Choir presented "The Story of Christmas," and the church enjoyed a Christmas Family Night Supper.
