Five
church league basketball teams represented Grace in the girls, boys,
and
men's city leagues. Boy Scout Sunday was observed in February
1973,
and Girl Scout Sunday was held in March.
The annual Chicken Spaghetti
Supper was held
on 30th March. Proceeds went to the youth.
An Easter Cantata "Behold Your
King" was presented
by the Chancel Choir on Palm Sunday. The new organ added to the
beauty
of the service. The "Joyful Noise" singing group from the Wesley
Foundation led the morning service on 29th April 1973. Among the
members of the group were Johnny Peoples and Wes Lynch.
The I. A. Lewis choir presented
a spring concert
for the evening service on Mother's Day, 13th May 1973. Sincere
thanks
and best wishes were extended to Kristi Garrison as she left Grace
after
faithfully serving as organist for four years.
"Quo Vadis '72" presented the
evening service
on 1st July 1973. Members of the group were Mary Francis Riggin,
Deborah McGehee, David McGehee, Johnny Peoples, and Wes Lynch.
Special services were held on
30th September
1973 in celebration of the Lincoln Parish Centennial. The
"Today's
Disciples" singing group from Trinity UMC were special guests at the
evening
fellowship supper.
Charter members were recognized
on Charter
Sunday, 4th November 1973. The "Foundation Singers" from the
Louisiana
Moral and Civic Foundation participated in the service.
Cottage prayer meetings were
started throughout
the congregation in November 1973 in preparation for a Thanksgiving
revival.
Former pastor Rev. George Ross was the guest evangelist.
The Chancel Choir presented
"Love Transcending"
in the morning service on 16th December 1973. The theme for the
family
night supper was "Hear the Songs of Christmas." A service of
carols
and candles was held on the evening of 23rd December.
Student
Recognition Sunday was 30th December 1973, and the year closed with a
Catacombs
Worship Service.
The membership of Grace on 31st
December 1973
was 387. Rev. Lynch challenged the congregation with a theme for
1974 - "Are you growing in your faith; if not, why not?"
