In
1970, six scouts earned their Eagle Award. They were Mike
Killgore,
Mike Walpole, Gary Christian, kenny Clark, Gary Rainey, and David
McGehee.
Scoutmaster Budge Dennis received an award as Outstanding Troopmaster.
In February 1970, the
deputation team from
the Louisiana Tech Wesley Foundation lead the morning service.
Speaker
for the team was Ken Peoples. An evening service was lead by the
Senior High UMYF. Among those participating were Lays, Nappers,
and
McGehees. "The Living Flame," a singing group from Lakeview in
Minden,
came and presented an evening program.
March 13 to 15 was the date of
a Lay Witness
Mission held at Grace. There was much preparation and there were
many prayers for this event. The Witnesses were warmly received,
and the weekend had an impact on lives at Grace that lasted for many
years
- even to this day.
Grace sponsored three boys
teams in the city
basketball league. The coach of the Pioneer League team was
Charles
Killgore. Coaches for the Ambassador League team were Steve
Walker
and Johnny Peoples.
At Annual Conference, Rev.
Bengtson was appointed
to First Church, Vidalia. Appointed to Grace was Rev. W. O.
Lynch,
Jr., wife, Jeanne, and family, Wes, Libbi, Alicia, and David.
Summer youth events included
weekly youth meetings
and a UMYF ski party and cookout at Lake Claiborne. Junior High
counselors
were Thermon and Ann Holstead. Grace men and girls each enjoyed
time
on the softball field.
In October 1970, Rev. and Mrs.
J. E. Hearn
were honoured with a reception celebrating their 50th
anniversary.
In November 1970, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Rainy, Sr. were also honoured with
a reception celebrating their 50th anniversary.
In December 1970, the Choir
presented the Christmas
Cantata, "Night of Miracles," the youth led the candlelight service,
and
the church family enjoyed a covered dish supper.
