In
January 1969, Mary Joan Ball became the 1000th member to join
Grace.
Special gifts made it possible for the Chancel Choir to buy new robes.
In April 1969, a Maundy
Thursday Communion
Service was offered at Grace. Later that month, the Ruston Public
High School Choir presented the evening worship service.
In June 1969, Gwen Peoples
assumed the duties
of Church Secretary. Youth Activity Week was held 8th June
through
14th June. The new District Superintendent, Ralph Cain, brought
the
evening message on 29th June. A reception to meet him and to
welcome
back the Bengtsons was held after the service.
Joy Spencer directed the
Vacation Church School
in July 1969.
In September 1969, the youth
group from the
Ringgold Methodist Church led an evening service. In October
1969,
the youth group from First Methodist in Minden did the same.
Charles
Killgore was guest speaker on Layman's Sunday. His message
included
"excuses" that Christians give.
The Ruston Community
Thanksgiving Service was
held at Grace. Rev. Ralph Cain brought the message.
Pictures
in the November 1969 issue of Grace Notes and News, published
with
the help of the Buddy Walker family, revealed that among those singing
in the Cherub Choir were Linda and James Barker, Susan Holstead, and
Lucius
McGehee. Also pictured was the Grace Youth Ensemble which
included
Libba, Lavern, and Lynn Ann Lay, Barbara and Deanna Napper, Judy
Dennis,
and Deborah McGehee. On 22nd November 1969, Grace members
descended
on the parsonage at 1200 Dubach and gave it a painting facelift.
On 30th December 1969, the Commission on Missions placed a gift tree in
the Narthex. Gifts left on the tree were sent to the prison
ministry
at Angola.
The Chancel Choir presented the
Christmas Cantata
"Child of Bethlehem" on 14th December. The evening service
featured
a return visit by the Ruston Public High School Choir in a special
Christmas
program. The Senior High UMYF sang carols at Longleaf and Alpine
Nursing Homes on 23rd December 1969. December 31st, 1969, marked
the end of a shortened fiscal year as the church moved its fiscal year
to correspond to the calendar year.
