The
Scouts of Troop 59 and Pack 59 were special guests at the morning
worship
service on Boy Scout Sunday, 12th February, 1967. The following
Sunday,
the Ruston Public High School choir sang at the evening service.
The month ended with a reception honouring the men and women who served
as officers and teachers of the Sunday School. Singled out for
outstanding
service were Buddy Walker and Buster Kees.
Dr. Woodrow Hearn led the
revival services
held in March 1967. Also in March 1967, Rev. Henry Blount and
some
of his MYFers from Shreveport presented a mission worship service.
In April 1967, a congregational
dinner was
held. The program wa an update of the slide presentation of the
previous
year showing Grace members at work.
In May 1967, the church
approved improvements
to the parsonage including central heat and air.
At the Annual Conference, Rev.
Watson was appointed
to First Church in Pineville. A reception honouring the Watsons
was
held on 4th June 1967. A number of members and friends
attended.
The church history reports that "they were truly loved by all."
The
new minister was Rev. George Hawkins who cam from North Highlands in
Shreveport.
Youth Activities Week was held
25th June to
2nd July 1967. The week concluded with a trip to Dallas.
Fourteen children were promoted
to the Upper
Elementary Division in August 1967. They received copies of the
Young
Readers Bible.
On 17th December 1967, the
Chancel Choir presented
"The King Cometh" at the morning worship service. The evening
service
was conducted by the Senior High MYF. They gave a worshipful
interpretation
of the birth of Christ.
A milestone was reached and a
precedent was
set on 20th December 1967 When Boy Scouts of America Troop 59 awarded
their
first Eagles. They went to Sam Cox, Jr., Bill Smith, and Neal
Walpole.
Many other boys would go on to receive their Eagle Award at Grace
Church
under the leadership of Troopmaster Budge Dennis.
