The
theme of the church-wide mission study conducted in March 1966 was
"Christian
Calling." Later that month, Grace and Trinity cosponsored a
revival.
Bishop Walton preached.
In April, 1966, a family night
supper was held.
The program was a slide presentation featuring the members of Grace at
work. The Easter Cantata, "No Greater Love," was presented at an
evening service. A reception honouring the choir followed.
In June 1966, Vacation Bible
School was held.
Later that month, the theme of Youth Activities Week was "To be a
Witness."
Along with discussion groups, worship, and activities, a hootenanny was
held at Lake D'Arbonne, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Howard.
The week ended with a trip to the Methodist Camp in Biloxi.
A reception honouring Mr. and
Mrs. A. E. Tellinghuisen
was held on 28th August 1966. The church's appreciation was
expressed
at this farewell reception. Mrs. Ruby Nell Barker was hired as
the
new choir director.
In September 1966, Grace began
to support the
work of Ray and Elizabeth Holt, missionaries in the Philippines.
In October 1966, the Junior
High MYF held a
car wash. The proceeds, $25, were used to take baskets to the
patients
at Longleaf Nursing Home.
Grace hosted the fall meeting
of the District
WSCS in November 1966. Local WSCS president was Jean Lay.
Dr. and Mrs. Henry Rickey were
guests at a
family night in December 1966. They shared their slides and
account
of their trip to the Holy Land. On 18th December 1966, the new
Methodist
Hymnals were dedicated in the morning service. The choir
presented
the Christmas Cantata, selections from Handel's Messiah. During
the
Christmas season, a tree was placed in the foyer and decorated with
cards
containing gifts for the Holt's, missionaries in the Philippines.
