Grace in 1965
Posted 5th March 2000
The Grace basketball team played in the Ruston Church League from January to March, 1965.

In February, 1965, as a prelude to Easter, the church held a Season of Love program.  Teams visited in member's homes and made efforts to be sure every member felt the love of Jesus.  The program was centered around the verse from John, "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you."

In June 1965, the theme for youth activities week was "The Will of God."  The week ended with a trip to Biloxi.

At conference, 73 new members were reported.  In the fall 1965, 48 students became affiliate members.

The Methodist Men sponsored a church wide fish fry at the Fair Grounds in July.  Also in July 1965, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Ruple presented Grace with a lighted sign in memory of their son, Sonny.

Rally Day was held in September 1965.  A record Sunday School attendance was recorded, and a dinner on the ground was held following the morning service.

In October 1965, the WSCS observed a week of prayer and self-denial with the theme, "Expect Great Things from God."

Former pastors McGuire, Blount, Ross, and District Superintendent Henry Rickie were guest preachers in the month-long celebration of the 15th anniversary of Grace.

The year 1965 ended with a weekend revival, a family night supper, and a Christmas Cantata.
