The
Grace basketball team played in the Ruston Church League from January
to
March, 1965.
In February, 1965, as a prelude
to Easter,
the church held a Season of Love program. Teams visited in
member's
homes and made efforts to be sure every member felt the love of
Jesus.
The program was centered around the verse from John, "This is my
commandment,
that you love one another as I have loved you."
In June 1965, the theme for
youth activities
week was "The Will of God." The week ended with a trip to Biloxi.
At conference, 73 new members
were reported.
In the fall 1965, 48 students became affiliate members.
The Methodist Men sponsored a
church wide fish
fry at the Fair Grounds in July. Also in July 1965, Mr. and Mrs.
Claude Ruple presented Grace with a lighted sign in memory of their
son,
Sonny.
Rally Day was held in September
1965.
A record Sunday School attendance was recorded, and a dinner on the
ground
was held following the morning service.
In October 1965, the WSCS
observed a week of
prayer and self-denial with the theme, "Expect Great Things from God."
Former pastors McGuire, Blount,
Ross, and District
Superintendent Henry Rickie were guest preachers in the month-long
celebration
of the 15th anniversary of Grace.
The year 1965 ended with a
weekend revival,
a family night supper, and a Christmas Cantata.
