In
January, 1962, the youth choir participated in a three day choir
festival
in Shreveport. The concluding event was a concert of over 350
young
people held in the sanctuary of First Methodist .
In March, 1962, a church-wide
school of missions
was held emphasizing the work in Latin America. The four week
session
closed with a fiesta.
The father-son picnic was held
in June 1962.
Sack races, relays, and baseball were the order of the day.
In July, 1962, a youth
activities week was
held. the week concluded with a trip to Dallas to visit SMU and
Six
Flags.
In August, 1962, Grace
contracted to expand
the education facilities, make alterations in the existing building,
and
add offices for the pastor, secretary, and church school.
The Methodist Men sponsored
Ladies Night in
October, 1962. At the celebration of its 12th anniversary, the
membership
of Grace church was 532. Dr. F. Jay Taylor, Louisiana Tech
President,
was guest speaker at Layman's Day services. Dr. Hal Barker, lay
leader,
presided at the service.
In November, 1962, Pastor Ross
participated
in an evangelistic crusade to the Rio Grade conference. On 27th
November,
1962, Grace hosted the Ruston District Conference. Bishop Aubrey
Walton brought the message. During the conference, Reinhard
Kruse,
Grace member and ministerial candidate, received his license to preach.
The year 1962 closed with a
family night supper,
Christmas Cantata, and Candlelight service.
