In
January 1961, the WSCS organized several prayer circles. Mrs.
Nena
Barnwell was WSCS president.
February 1961 was a church wide
school of missions
with the theme, "Into all the World Together." Also in February,
1961, the World Day of Prayer service was held at First Southern
Baptist
Church. This service was led by laymen. Jimmy Howard
represented
Grace.
A pulpit shuffle was held in
March 1961, Rev.
Ross preached at Southside in Monroe and Dr. Ben Oliphant of St. Paul's
in Monroe delivered the message at Grace.
Back by popular request, the
Chancel Choir
repeated the 1960 Easter Cantata, "The Seven Last Words of Christ."
In May 1961, following the
morning service
a church picnic was held at Camp Alabama. The food, fellowship,
and
fun lasted through the afternoon. The day ended with evening
services
held at the camp Chapel.
The Methodist Men sponsored a
father - son
picnic in July 1961. Activities included fishing, boating, and
baseball.
In August 1961, two groups of men began meeting weekly for Bible
reading
and prayer.
Once again, the city-wide
Thanksgiving service
was held at Grace.
In December 1961, Grace hosted
a district wide
missionary rally. The guest speakers were Carl and Julia
Williams,
missionaries from Bolivia.
