Grace UMC
50th Anniversary Committee
Grace in 1959
Posted 23rd January 2000
A church wide mission study was conducted during the month of February, 1959.  Areas of special concern were the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska.

A week of visitation evangelism in March, 1959, was sponsored by the Commission on Membership and Evangelism and the Methodist Men.  Teams went out to reach inactive members and the unchurched in the community.

A revival lead by Rev. W. D. Boddie was also held in March, 1959.

The Easter Cantata was "The Seven Last Words of Christ" and the Christmas Cantata was "The Song of Christmas."

WSCS President  for the year was Mildred McGehee.

The budget for 1959-1960 was set at $29,600.  August of 1959 was a trying month for the finances of Grace.  With funds running low, Rev. Henry Blount, urged members to accept the responsibility and privilege of supporting the church.

On the 9th anniversary, Grace had a membership of 420.

During 1959, five young people made decisions for Christian vocations.

The year 1959 ended with Christmas family night on 16th December and a "come and go" prayer service on Christmas Day.
