In
February, 1957, the methodist Men announced that they would provide two
scholarships to Caney Lake summer camp.
Ground breaking ceremonies for
the new sanctuary
were held on 3rd March, 1957. The new building would have a
seating
capacity of 385 and include three new classrooms. The building
would
cost $81,000. Chicken spaghetti, church dinners, fair booths, and
the generosity of the members continued to help fund the new building.
The church budget for the year
1957 was $16,108.
During the month of August,
1957, Grace and
Trinity joined forces for the evening services. The combined
services
were held at the Tech Wesley Foundation.
Ruby Nell and Hal Barker left
in August, 1957,
for Auburn University. The new choir director was Mr. A. E.
Tellinghuisen.
Formal opening of the new
sanctuary was held
on 13th October, 1957.
Pam Pierce was among the first
group of babies
baptized in the new sanctuary.
Buddy McFadden was elected
president of the
Grace Methodist Youth Fellowship.
At its seventh birthday, Grace
Church had grown
to a membership of 378.
