The
1955 annual report showed 40 new members, brining the total membership
at Grace to 279. The average Sunday School attendance was 116.
The building fund drive to
finance the construction
of the sanctuary and additional education facilities began in June
1955.
The immediate goal was $20,000 toward the $75,000 project. The
WSCS
donated $300 to the building fund from the proceeds of the sale of
cookbooks.
The Rev. Preston Holley
requested to be relieved
of the pastorate because of illness. Bishop Paul Martin appointed
Rev. Henry Blount as the new pastor in November 1955.
Grace closed the year with a
Watch Night service
conducted by the young people of the church. In January, plans
and
contributions were made to air condition the new church building by the
summer of that year.
