The
presence of a regular choir in the service on 28th January 1951 was
evidence
of a growing church. From the bulletin on Sunday, 29th April 1951
--- "Our choir is lending much to the spirit and beauty of our worship
services. It is a volunteer choir, doing a delightful job."
Choir practice was on Thursdays at 7:30 pm.
From the bulletin on Sunday,
18th February
1951 --- "Wednesday evening, 7pm, all men of Grace Church are invited
to
a chicken spaghetti supper at the Legion Hall. A unit of the
Methodist
Men has been organized, and all men are invited to join. This
will
be the first meeting, so plan to come and be a charter member."
On Layman's Day, 34 men agreed
to do personal
work as visitors during the visitation evangelism effort. The
sincere
prayers of the congregation accompanied these men as they went out as
"fishers
of men."
The Grace parsonage at 1200
Dubach was built
in 1951. Ground was broken on 27th February 1951, and the
building
was completed and consecrated on 12th May.
Rev. Doug McGuire was
reappointed as pastor
at the Louisiana Annual Conference. The parsonage family included
wife, Mabel, and daughters Sandy and Betsy.
Hymns sung on 5th August 1951
were "All Hail
the Power of Jesus Name", "Love Divine", and "God is My Strong
Salvation."
From the bulletin on Sunday,
21st October 1951
---"The Grace Church booth at the [Civil Parish] Fair last week did a
splendid
job, adding $425 dollars to the treasury. This money will be used
to help open the building fund."
On the first anniversary of
Grace Church the
morning service was followed by a dinner on the ground. On that
day,
the building fund for the new educational building was opened.
Estimated
cost of the new building ---$40,000. Pledges and cash received on
that day totaled $8,600.
The 1951 general budget was
$7,327.00.
Grace Church ended 1951 by
holding its first
revival from 2nd to 9th December.
