The Shepherd Patrol

WHAT IS “THE SHEPHERD PATROL?”

The “Shepherd Patrol” is an arm of The United Methodist Church, Branford Nurturing Ministry dedicated to providing a link between the Church as a whole and its members and friends.

WHO ARE THE SHEPHERDS?

Any member of The United Methodist Church, Branford may request of the Nurturing Ministry to become “a Shepherd.”

HOW DOES THE “SHEPHERD PATROL” WORK?

1.      The names of Church members, together with the names of “friends” of the Church, are divided up and assigned to the Shepherds. The list will contain names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses of:

A.     members of the Church

B.     those who attend services but are not members (constituents)

C.     visitors

2.      The names of people on “Nurturing Request” cards will be given to the appropriate Shepherd.  All others will be assigned as appropriate.  Follow-up to all “Nurturing Requests” will first be discussed with the Pastor.

3.      Each Shepherd is responsible for being aware of the needs of the people whose names are on their list by:

A.     being in contact with the person on their list to let that person know who is their Shepherd and

B.     being available

C.     being aware of when that person is/is not in Church and might need assistance

D.     referral

4.      As a need is determined, the Shepherd will help meet that need by:

A.     listening to the person,

B.     fulfilling the need themselves,

C.     referring the person to the appropriate in-Church person or group

D.     putting that person in contact with appropriate outside service providers

E.      or a combination of the above.

If you are interested in becoming a “Shepherd” or would like more information about “The Shepherd Patrol,” please contact BERT LANG.
