CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CORNER (01-2008)

Please congratulate the following children on their perfect attendance in Sunday School for the month of November!

Well done, and keep it up! Please take the time to visit the different Sunday School classrooms on Sunday and take a look at the attendance chains. Every Sunday, each child adds a link to his or her attendance chain, and it is a visual reminder of how their faith grows every time they come to church. At the end of the year, any child who attended EVERY Sunday this year will receive a special prize! However, if youre out of town for whatever reason and cant come to church, go to church wherever you are and bring me a bulletin as proof that you went, and that absence will not count against your total. In addition, children who miss 3 or fewer Sundays will still be eligible for an attendance award. If you have any questions about the attendance or the Lords Prayer memorization awards, call or email me.

Please mark one of the following dates on your calendar: January 20th and January 27th will be Sunday School Picture Day, when we take pictures of all the Sunday School Participants. We will take individual pictures of each child as well as class pictures and pictures of the different groups, such as acolytes, youth choir, and youth groups. We will make them into a Sunday School Yearbook to be distributed in June. Make sure your child comes to church on one of those Sundays so that everyone can be included!

I am usually at church Tuesday-Friday from 9am until noon; and if you cant drop in then, contact me and we can set up an appointment. Feel free to call me (782-3972) or e-mail me (dce@auburnmethodist.org) with questions, concerns, or to share ideas!

Looking forward to a promising new year,

Ms. Kary

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Every Sunday, the children will come into church with their parents; please feel free to select the age appropriate Childrens Worship Bulletin for your child, available as you enter the sanctuary. The bulletins have activities that center on a scripture reading from the days worship service. After the Moments with the Children, they will go out for their Sunday School classes. Please dont forget your offering when you go out to Sunday School! We will continue to have families celebrate Holy Communion together on the first Sunday of the month as well, attending Sunday School classes after the conclusion of communion.

In January, the Sunday School theme is Parables. The children will be learning about the parables of Jesus. Ask your child about what he or she is learning in Sunday School; take a look at the leaflet that goes with the lesson.

DECEMBER BEACON TRIVIA

Congratulations to Stan Rice, who completed the Beacon Trivia page for December! Here are the answers:

1.      According to the Gospel of Matthew, how many women are included in the "genealogy of Jesus the Messiah" found in chapter one? Answer: Five Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, the wife of Uriah, and Mary.

2.      What does the name "Emmanuel" mean according to Matthew 1:23?

Answer: God is with us

3.      What three gifts were presented to the newborn Jesus by the wise men according to Matthew 2:11?  (must be spelled correctly!)

Answer: Gold, frankincense, and myrrh

4.      According to Isaiah's vision found in chapter two verses 1-5 people will "beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.

5.      The role of John the Baptist according to Matthew 3:3 was to "prepare the way of the Lord".

6.      What is the shortest Psalm? Psalm 117

7.      What is the longest Psalm? Psalm 119

8.      How many Psalms are there? 150

9.      What was inside the Ark of the Covenant? The Ten Commandments: Stan added this: the second set, not the original set given by God to Moses. The first set was destroyed in smashing the golden calf.

10.  BONUS QUESTION: What is this mans middle name? The first challenge of this question was to identify the man, who is our very own Pastor Rich! The second challenge was to ascertain his middle name, which is Arthur (not Alvin or Angus, or even Andrew)!

Thanks to those who have participated in the trivia page. Unfortunately, due to my time constraints, the trivia page will be discontinued. If you are interested in doing the trivia page (or any other addition to the Beacon), let us know! We would appreciate your contribution greatly!
