SUNDAY SCHOOL 10-2007
Sunday School is off
to a wonderful start this year, with 41 young people registered. Please
remember to register your child for Sunday school if you haven’t already;
registration forms are available on the sign-up table in the fellowship hall.
Children will stay in church with their parents each Sunday until the Moments
with the Children, when they will be dismissed to go to their Sunday School
classes.
In September, the
children learned about the “House of David”, finding out who David’s ancestors
were; in October, the unit title is “Beginning a Nation”, and they will
learn about David himself. Come join us in learning more about God; the rewards
last a lifetime! In addition, the children have an opportunity to give an
offering each Sunday; encourage your child to earn some money by helping around
the house for an offering so that they can experience how good it feels to give
back.
Starting October 1st,
Claire Cote will sing with the children at 11:00am. Remember that there are
additional opportunities for your child to participate both in and outside of
the service, so consider the Youth and Jr. Youth groups, as well as the Spirit
Ringers and being an Acolyte this year; please contact me if interested.
In Christ,
Ms. Kary
JR. YOUTH GROUP (4th-6th grade)
3rd
& 5th Sunday - right after church
The Junior Youth
Group will meet on the 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month
right after church, and is eligible for those in grades 4 through 6. Our first
meeting is September 30th, and the next meeting will take
place on October 21st both right after church. Many
thanks to Rachel Randall, who has offered to help lead the group. If anyone
else would like to help out, please contact Kary Coffin at 782-3972; the more
the merrier!
YOUTH GROUP (7th-12th grade)
2nd
& 4th Sunday – 6:00pm
Our Ecumenical Youth
Group will meet on the 2nd Sunday of the month at the Auburn United
Methodist Church, and on the 4th Sunday of the month at the High
Street Congregational Church. This month, on October 14th at 6:00pm,
our program will focus on homelessness. We will also have a meeting October
28th at High Street Congregational Church at 6:00pm. Come
join us anytime, or if you have ideas or would like to help out, please contact
Kary Coffin at 782-3972!
HALLOWEEN PARTY
Sunday,
October 28th 1:30-2:30pm
COME JOIN US! We
will have a non-scary Halloween party for children up to third grade October 28th
from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Please, no scary or grotesque costumes; let’s just have
a fun time together.
IT WILL BE LOTS OF FUN! We will start off with a costume parade, and the party will continue with
games like beanbag toss, cupcake walk, donuts on a string, and popular
favorites such as the riding toy road for our youngest attendees, face
painting, and multiple guessing jars!
PLEASE HELP! Children
in fourth grade or higher are welcome to help decorate for the party after
church on the 28th; we will provide lunch for those who stay to
help. We also need volunteers (both youth and adult are welcome) to staff the
various games during the party. There is a sign-up sheet for snacks for the
party so that we will know what we can plan on having, and there is a box for
donations of individually wrapped candy to fill goodie bags for the children to
take home with them.
POT-LUCK LUNCHEON
Sunday,
October 21th 11:30am
Keeping the
tradition of the pot-luck luncheon alive, but with a new twist, our first
pot-luck luncheon of the year will take place on Sunday, October 21st
at 11:30am. As in the past, please bring a salad, main dish, or dessert, and
add your name to the sign-up sheet in the Fellowship Hall. We would also
appreciate volunteers to help set up before and clean up afterwards. A new idea
that we will try for this year is a “family Bible study” at the same time as
the luncheon. We will have questions or quotes on the tables to encourage
discussion among those seated together. Feel free to suggest topics for
discussion when you sign up, but be sure to come and enjoy the wonderful food
and fellowship!
MECHUWANA CAMPERSHIP FUND
Summer may seem to
be far away right now, but before you know it, it will be here again. It is
important to remember to support our campership fund by bringing in our cans
and bottles. It takes 1,500 bottles to provide one Mechuwana wanna-be camper
with a scholarship of $75.00. Thank you for your ongoing support of this
life-changing ministry!
Acolyte Schedule

ACOLYTE TRAINING
Sunday, October 7th right after church
If your
child is in 3rd grade or above, he or she can be an acolyte. The
acolyte lights the candles at the beginning of the service and puts them out at
the end, carrying Christ’s light to the world. We will have a practice session for
those interested on October 7th after the service; experienced
acolytes are welcome as well as kids who just want to try it out.
FUN PAGE!
Have you been paying attention in Sunday School and in
church? How well do you know the Bible? Here are some fun questions to
challenge your mind! Submit your answers to Kary Coffin by October 15th
and check in the Beacon next month to see if you were right! We will publish
the names of those who answered correctly.
