Sunday School

We are so blessed to have so many opportunities in our community of faith to learn and grow. The teaching we are exposed to during Sunday morning worship is amazing and the great thing about it is we don't have to stop there. At Court Street UMC, there are a wide variety of Sunday School Classes offered. These classes will all kick-off on September 7th and range in age from Preschool to adult. We invite you to take advantage of the classes that are offered and get your children involved. The more knowledge we have about our faith in Jesus Christ and how we can apply that in everyday life, the better our chances of having a profound impact on our world both as individuals and as a church. My son, Aidan, just picked out a t-shirt when we were back-to-school shopping that reads, "Most likely to change the world". I believe as Christians, when we study God’s word and apply it to our lives, we are better prepared to do that. With many adult Sunday School classes and a class for each age of the children and youth, we encourage everyone to take advantage of what's offered. Even if you have never been a part of a Sunday School class, it is never too late. Find the class that suits your child's age and/or find the class for adults that suits your interest.

The Children's Sunday School is an area of excitement, as well. We are excited to try Rotation Model Sunday School. The Rotation Model in a nutshell is teaching major Bible stories and concepts through kid-friendly multimedia workshops such as Art, Drama, Games, A-V, Puppets, Storytelling, Science, etc.  We learned, for example, during VBS how science can relate to Jesus. That is just one educational media example of what can be used to connect the Bible and it's teachings to our kids in a fun, hands-on way. There are many things churches are noticing in Sunday School. For instance, declining attendance, lack of bible literacy, expensive curriculum that is half used, and trouble recruiting teachers. This rotation model responds to all of these "trouble spots" and many more. For instance, by having many different educational media, the kids are exposed to different people who have a specialty that they would like to share with the children. Not only does it give them diversity in their teachers, it also spreads the workload so no one person is having to teach the entire year. We look forward to an exciting year of learning together.

Remember, you're never too old or too young to further your love and knowledge of God! The following are other classes offered at Court Street and are open to everyone:
Fellowship Class: An in-depth study straight from the Bible for all ages.
Social Concerns Sunday School Class for people of all ages who want to learn more about the role of individuals, our congregation and the UMC in furthering Christian cause of justice in our local and global world.
