Pastor's Comments on Sunday School Lesson

To Clayton Today

"People of Godly Behavior" is the title of the Sunday school lesson for August 24, 2008.  The purpose of this lesson is "To grasp that humility is the path that leads to fellowship with God and reconciliation with others."  The Scripture is James 4 with #8 as the key verse: "Draw near to God, and [God] will draw near to you."
I would imagine that most of you who read Clayton Today know Frank and Connie Gilley who owned the True Value store.  I was with them at the Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City on August the 12th when Frank went through extensive surgery that lasted a little over 6 hours.  When the surgeon finally came out to give Connie the results he said he had removed half of Frank's liver and although the preliminary tests on the unidentified mass that was the initial concern were negative for cancer, he was sure they would find tumors in the liver itself.  Connie called me Saturday, August 16th with the good news that the biopsy on Frank's liver was also negative for cancer.  Frank is cancer free.  The surgeon was totally baffled and told Connie he was beginning to question his own competency.
Frank and Connie are not baffled.  In their hour of need for God's healing peace, they drew near to him and he drew near to them.  The entire Gilley family thanks all of you for the many prayers you lifted up for them and they are grateful for God's miraculous healing love that has touched their life in such an awesome way.  It will be some time before Frank is up and around again so keep him and Connie in your prayers.  You are certainly in theirs.
Please attend Church somewhere this week and open your heart, mind and soul to experience the nearness of God's magnified, peaceful presence in the fellowship of believers.  The doors of every church in this area are open to all and each welcomes your presence.  May God bless you and keep you in his infinite love and amazing grace.
