Pastor's Comments on Sunday School Lesson
To Clayton Today "A Holy People" is the title of the Sunday school lesson for November 1, 2009. The purpose of this lesson is to "affirm that Christians are called to reflect God's holiness through loving attitudes and actions. The Scripture is 1st Peter 1:13-25 with 15 & 16 as the key verses: "As he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I am holy'." My first impression upon reading the key verses is that I am supposed to be perfect. Actually, the meaning of these words from God are more a reflection of recognizing our screw-ups and taking the responsibility for them by asking God's forgiveness and then trying to do better. The author points out in this lesson that not even the saints were perfect and God doesn't expect us to be either while we are here on earth. However, accepting Jesus as our Lord and Master helps us to be as good as humanly possible. When we invite him into our hearts, minds and souls his Holy Spirit tries to keep us on the path of love, the path to eternal life. Please attend church somewhere this week and join the holy people who have opened their hearts to the Holy Spirit. The doors of every church in this area are open to all and each welcomes your presence.
