Pastor Pope's Pen
- November 17, 2009

On Monday, November 9th I had the privilege of going to Nashville to interview Bishop Reuben Job. Our District Superintendent Mike Stonbraker asked me and two other pastors to be a part of this very timely meeting. The interview was taped and will be available to all the churches in the Northwest District. We asked Bishop Job about his latest two books, Becoming a Praying Congregation and When You Pray. The two books are excellent resources for helping churches and individuals deepen their prayer lives. I want to work with leadership here at Tuscumbia First and use Becoming a Praying Congregation to implement a plan that helps us focus on letting prayer be a way of life and not an additive to life. In the workbook, there is a yearlong guide to helping churches pray. As Jesus said, "My house is to be a house of prayer."

Also, I believe all of us would benefit personally from the daily prayer guide When You Pray. This guide is designed for anyone who wants to live faithfully and follow Jesus fully. It is a resource that seeks to respond to the need for a pattern of prayer in our lives. The readings begin November 29th, the first day in Advent. Therefore we need to move quickly. We will order the prayer guides and then you may pick them up here at church.

Remember this Wednesday, November 18th, is our church wide Day of Prayer. Let this day be a time when we pray without ceasing. Many of us will fast our noon meal and devote that time to prayer. Come to church Wednesday night ready to pray for God to move mightily in Tuscumbia. Please pray about committing to adopt a street. This is a very basic prayer ministry. By signing up you are committing to praying daily for the people who live on that street. May this become a God thing!

Blessings,
Bro. Mike
