In Nehemiah's story of rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem, we learn that halfway through
the project the people became discouraged and wanted to give up. Like many churches they became
frustrated, fatigued, and fearful. Nehemiah helped the people to reorganize the project and
he helped them recast their vision. He reminded them of the importance of their work and he
reassured them that God would help them fulfill his purpose. The wall was completed in fifty-two
days.
This past Sunday we looked at this story and asked the Lord to recast his vision in our lives.
He wants to help us complete the task that He has given to us. He has called us to be faithful
to the vision we have received. God's purpose for Tuscumbia First UMC is to make disciples
of Jesus Christ. Our mission statement reminds us that we exist so that hundreds of people
who live in the Shoals will become committed followers of Jesus Christ. This brings glory
to our God when we bear much fruit.
We will bear much fruit by being faithful. You responded in such awesome way to our "Miracle
Sunday". With an offering of over $121,000 on October 4, it truly was miraculous. Now what?
We made a commitment to the Lord to do two things. We decided to give Him a raise and a special
bonus. The bonus came with much second giving. Thank you! The second step is to remember to
give the Lord a raise. If everyone will simply give more each time you give we won't have
any problems meeting our monthly budget. If we average $1,000 more each Sunday we will not
fall behind in 2010
The Finance Committee has met and is prayerfully considering how to be faithful with the
special offering. We want to be wise stewards. The Committee will watch the giving during
November and December to be able to make the best recommendation as we enter into a new year. Please
pray for the Lord to guide us as we prepare the budget for 2010. We are blessed!
