This past weekend was Laity Sunday and I want to take a moment to thank all who
made it so special. You are my encouragement in ministry - thank you for letting God use
you.
Have you ever taken notice of the times Paul thanked people in his letters to the churches?
It happens in almost every letter he wrote. He mentioned how they helped him with gifts,
supplies, prayers, words of encouragement, visits, and even some who stayed with him from
time to time. He mentioned how thankful he was for those who proved to be faithful disciples
and faithful to the Lord's work. In all his endeavors and hardships it seems to me his
two greatest sources of encouragement came from the actions of God and the actions of
God's people. Imagine if you had lived back in the days of Paul... if you had been in
one of those churches... if you had the opportunity to meet Paul... and the chance to
help Paul and his ministry... What would history say about your personal involvement?
Would Paul have been able to add your name to his list of those he thanked? I am constantly
amazed at the laity of our church. There are those among us who have stepped up and set
the example of what a true Christian servant is. Those that I believe would easily be
found in Paul's letters had they been around him. I thank God for their testimony and
labors. I have committed afresh to honor them by first thanking them; second praying for
them; and finally following their lead. We can all learn from one another - let us learn
from those who are doing good!
God bless you all,
Bro. David
