We Need Encouragement!

In the epistle to the Hebrews we are reminded to encourage one another. In chapter 3 it reads - "See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness."

As I studied this passage I was surprised when I found out what the meaning of the word "unbelieving" was. I have always thought it was referring to someone who has chosen to deliberately reject the truth and disobey God. What I found it means is - to lack trust, not necessarily deliberate but because of a carelessly permitted state of heart... to become spiritually wishy-washy and soft. Doesn't that hit the nail on the head? I know what I believe about the Gospel of Jesus and you can't change my mind! But am I always careful in my belief - or careless at times?

It is so important that we stay strong in our belief and trust in God. That's not always easy for us, and that is why the scripture continues on to read, "encourage one another daily". Plainly put - God's answer for us is "stick together"! There was a man named Barnabas who was known as an encourager. We all need a "Barnabas" in our lives, and all of us need to be a "Barnabas" to someone else. All of us need encouragement - so here is my challenge for you this week. Will you be an encourager for someone? Make a point to find someone everyday this week and lift them up through the gift of encouragement! I believe you can do it! As you sow encouragement, you will reap encouragement.

God bless you!
Bro. David
