  Church to Church

April is here !
A new postcard exchange has begun.

Church To Church
Linking Us Together

What is it?
    FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, but what is it?
It is a postcard exchange set up for the United Methodist Church Youth Groups/Sunday     Schools.

Sounds interesting, but what exactly do I do?
  • Sign Up- Send an email to Me (Pam) at ChurchToChurch@yahoo.com (ChurchToChurch08yahoo.com for the time being) with your church name, City and State, e-mail and a sentence or two about your church
  • I'll post your info to the web (See Below) so, Check Yourself out (Isn't it cool to see your church name up there?)
  • Look through the rest of the list of other churches that have joined
  • Pick a few you would like to trade with and send them an e-mail asking them to trade.
  • Wait (Patience is a virtue) for them to reply with either an "I can't, I'm sorry :(" or with their address.
  • If they send an address reply with your own.

The Ten Rules of Church To Church
    1.  Always return an e-mail, it's a common courtesy
    2.
 Don't Use offensive Language
    3.
Don't be offensive in general
    4.  Basically, BE NICE and BE CHRISTIAN
    5.  Be Polite (Thank you, Sorry, etc.)
   6.  Remember only Church Name and church information (No personal information for this exchange) and if you choose to write your names on the postcards then only first names (You can never be too safe)
    7.  Be responsible, if you agree to trade, then trade, don't leave the other churches hanging
    8.  If your church has no e-mail or the e-mail is unaccessible to you and you wish to use another contact, please make it an adult and have their permission (I prefer Church e-mail whenever possible though)
    9.  Don't limit or overextend yourself, more places = more fun, but you can't always write to everyone, find your limit and find your exchanges.
    10. Enjoy yourself, this is meant to be FUN (Like I said before).

So Yeah, it looks pretty cool, but what's the use?

There is a lot of educational value to this exchange.  Yes, it's exciting to get and read mail and it will occupy some time figuring out what to write up, but why should we do this?

Lesson #1

The Hierarchy of the Church.  It's a difficult concept and sometimes I even find myself confused.  So, one idea would be to print off the list that will be posted.  Then you can talk to the kids about the different levels of the United Methodist Church.  Next take the list and go through it.  Help the kids figure out which churches are in their district, conference, jurisdiction, global .  Or see if you can get an exchange with a church at each different level.
Lesson #2

Go over the missions that your Sunday School or Youth Group has been doing.  Missions are a great thing to share on your postcard and also have a good message about what is going on in your community and giving back.  It will be interesting which missions they remember and which they really felt strongly about.  Then when you get your postcards you can see if what their youth have been doing is the same or different.  You may get some good ideas for new missions in the future.

Lesson #3

Learn what your group likes about your church.  Ask each person to name one thing that makes your church unique, special, amazing, or simply why they come.  This could be shared on the postcard too.

Lesson #4

Finally review your year.  Another great idea of what to put on your postcard would be what you are studying.  There are many interesting lessons and you might just inspire some other group.  Why not give it a try and see what lesson really got through to your group.

Lesson #5
Make your own postcard.  Let your card display your group.  All you need are some great pictures from your year and some card stock.  It will save you money and show the other churches your real personality.  Whether your perfectly posed in front of your church or having a crazy fun time at a picnic make your postcard about you.  Make it to inspire and don't make it tedious.
