Music ministry at Trinity United Methodist, as varied as The United Methodist Hymnal, is grounded in
the traditional hymns, psalms and spiritual songs of the Christian church and in the distinctively Wesleyan
hymns of the 18th century. It is also enriched by the "folk" traditions of the African-American and
Hispanic-American communities, and it looks to the future of congregational song in the hymns and
songs emerging during the new century.
Our music ministry begins with the primary choir of the church, the whole congregation, engaged in
song supported by organ, choir, and other instruments. The Trinity Choir draws
from a diverse choral literature, with a primary focus on interpreting and
proclaiming the word in song.
The 39-rank
Austin organ, originally built in
1912, refurbished in 1995 with additional work done in 2007, provides a distinctive and reverberant sound, permitting the performance
of a wide repertoire of organ works as well as strong support for congregational and choral song.
Trinity shares this wonderful instrument with the community through the
Trinity UMC Organ Concert Series. This
series features many local and internationally known artists and helps to raise
funds for refurbishing and upkeep of the organ.
The music and education programs of the church also cooperate to provide a music and worship
education time with children and youth (grades 2-12) as part of the Sunday School hour each week.
