Trinity United Methodist Church
of Alexandria, Louisiana

Church History

Trinity Methodist Church was founded in 1945 around the end of World War II.  Rev. George W. Harbuck, a young pastor, District Superintendant Rev. R. R. Branton, and interested Methodists bought property at 204 Chester St. in Alexandria.
Within a few months a 100 year old frame church building was bought and relocated from Bayou Rapides Road.  There were forty charter members and eleven prepatory members when Trinity Methodist Church had our first formal worship service on Sunday, June 10, 1945 at 11:00 a.m.
As the congregation grew, Trinity secured a frame Army Chapel building from Camp Livingston which the church verneered on the outside with Waskom brick.  The first Sunday service held in this new sanctuary was on November 15, 1948.
In 1954, Rev. W.F. Mayo was the pastor and the church added an Educational Building.  At that time the church membership was around 400.
When the Methodist Church merged with the EUB's in 1968 to become the United Methodist Church, Rev. Byrl Moreland was serving as pastor.  In that land- mark year, Trinity built a new Fellowship Hall, Office and Educational Facility.  It was consecrated on April 28th.
When Rev. Jarrell Morgan was the pastor in 1996, Trinity United Methodist Church sold its historic building on Chester St.  to the Rapides Council on Aging and relocated to our current building at 5752 Bayou Rapides Road.
The Service of Consecration was held on November 20, 1996 in our new sanctuary with
Rev. Gary Don Willis, pastor.
Our mission continues to be Growing Hearts for God.
