United Methodist Women's Purpose explained:
 |
Organized unit: United Methodist Women are
organized for mission, making UMW different than other groups, clubs, or
fellowships. |
 |
Community of women: UMW is a group of women
coming together with common interests. Although individually
diverse, to be in mission is a shared focus. |
 |
To know God: First and foremost UMW are
women of faith, striving to deepen their understanding of God and to
discern God's will for their lives and work. |
 |
Experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus
Christ: there comes a greater confidence opening possibilities, a new
liberation to do and be what God intended. |
 |
Develop a creative, supportive fellowship:
This can be prayer, cards, and casseroles with sisters in local units.
Globally, it may provide life sustaining ministries for women and their
families around the world. |
 |
Expand concepts of mission: From the very
beginning until the present, education for being involved in mission in
innovative ways has been an essential part for leaders, members, and for
those whom we serve. This may involve risk taking. |
 |
Participation in global ministries of the church:
UMW is connected to and integrated in the total life of the United
Methodist Church, locally and globally. |
