Human Trafficking

Presented by

Sr. Connie Gemme

Sr. Connie has been a member of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa for 55 years. She worked in Ghana, West Africa, for 30 years as an R.N. and midwife in hospitals and outreach clinics. Her roles in health administration included involvement with prisoners and street children. When the Ministry of Health retired her in 1994, she started a project for street women called Collaboration with Women in Distress (COLWOD). COLWOD’s mission is to get prostitutes off the streets and offer them an alternative by teaching them income-generating activities. In 1995, she started to work against human trafficking, doing awareness-raising throughout Ghana. Since her definitive departure from Ghana in 2004, Sister continues to raise awareness in the USA about the horrors of human trafficking.
