Icon – “An object of reflection and mediation, a window to God.”
On Saturday, October 18th, Pamela Chatterton-Purdy will be with us for a special reception welcoming her powerful and beautiful display of icons from the Civil Rights era. Pamela has made seventeen icons and they will be on display at Trinity Church from Saturday, October 18th through Friday October 24th. Members and friends of Trinity Church, as well as people from the larger Springfield community are being invited to experience this dramatic artwork. We have set aside Saturday, October 18th from 4-6 PM as a time for us to meet Pamela, to hear her reflect some upon the meaning of the icons, and for all in attendance to view them. Then, her husband, the Rev. David Purdy, former associate pastor of Trinity Church, will preach on Sunday, October 19th. These icons have been displayed at other congregations throughout New England, at Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, and at Brandies University. More information about this display will be available in October’s Carillon, but be sure to take advantage of this rich opportunity. You can preview the icons at Pam’s website: chatterton-purdyart.com. |
