Informed, Inspired, Involved: Thoughts on Christian Stewardship

Informed, Inspired, Involved: These are three elements of a well-rounded Christian life, and keys to the spiritual fulfillment that God has promised us.

Taken together, they form a theme central to Christian stewardship.

Be informed. Know that stewardship is about God. The Bible tells us that everything we have is a gift from God. We really don’t own anything. Giving to God acknowledges this reality and affirms our relationship with the Creator.

Inform yourself about what it means to be a good steward. The Christian world view is far different than the world view that our secular culture drums into our heads day after day. The practical, day-to-day, hands-on life of a Christian is that of a good steward.

From knowledge comes inspiration: the product of the creative breath of God. As Christians we are motivated by what we learn from God’s word.

We are motivated to be involved. By giving to Trinity, each of us becomes directly involved in the lives of the people who are touched by our ministries.

We help feed the hungry in our community through Germantown Help. We reach out to the sick. We teach our children the basics of the Christian life, and we extend these principles into the community through such outreach programs as Vacation Bible School. We guide our youth, and they carry inspiration into our neighborhoods through their own hands-on outreach. These things and more are accomplished directly by you in your gifts to Trinity.

Be involved. If you have never made a pledge to the church, please consider taking this very basic step. By doing so, you raise your own expectations of yourself as a Christian. If you regularly pledge, please consider making an increase in your commitment as a practical step toward a more complete Christian life.

As pastor and author John Bonnell once said, "If one first gives himself to the Lord, all other giving is easy."

Yours in Christ,
Rev. Jim
