Missions Month Special Sundays Covered Dish Suppers

Outreach

The responsibility of the Outreach Committee is to bring to the attention of the congregation some of the many ways our church can reach out to others, in our community, our nation, and the world with our gifts, our services, and our prayers, as we attempt to follow the instructions of Jesus when he said

"Inasmuch as ye do it unto the least of these my brethren, ye do it also unto me."
(Mathew 25:40)

Many projects fall under this committee's umbrella but are carried out by various Sunday School classes and committees. Some of the projects that fall into this category are:

  • Samaritan's Purse
  • Angel Tree
  • Local organizatons, such as:
    • A Child's Place
    • Operation Spud - An offering was collected by children during Vacation Bible School to purchase patatoes for hungry people. Enough was collected to purchase 5,000 LBS of patatoes.
A Child's Place
In times of emergency, such as hurricanes, floods and earthquakes, special offerings are taken and forwarded through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). UMCOR

Our Outreach bulletin board is located in the main hall directly across from the sanctuary side door. Posted here you will find many opportunities for giving, thank you letters for what has been given and sign-up sheets for needed volunteers for up coming mission projects.

It boils down to doing our best to help those less fortunate than ourselves, to inform those who have never heard about the love of Jesus Christ, and to try to live as He would have us live.

MISSIONS MONTH

Each year, one month is designated as Missions Month with each week giving emphisis on a special mission project. These projects includ:

  • sending cards and visiting shut-ins whithin our church and community
  • a baby shower for mothers at the Florence Crittenton Home
  • a speaker from Habitat for Humanity
  • forming building teams to be sent where help is needed to build or re-build homes and churches
  • contributions to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) for aid where needed due to wars and natural disasters.

SPECIAL SUNDAYS

Trinity participates in the six special Sundays designated as "Church-wide Special Sundays", set up by the conference, that provide for offerings which express our commitment to giving. Each day has a history, when and how it started and we are told how the offering should be used. The special Sundays are:

  • Human Relations Day
  • One Great Hour of Sharing
  • Native American Awareness Sunday
  • United Methodist Student Day
  • World Communion Day - first Sunday in October
  • Peace with Justice Sunday

COVERED DISH SUPPERS

Three or four times throughout the year, we try to hold a covered dish supper with speakers from various local, national, and global organizations. Some of our most recent speakers were from

A Love Offering or items pertaining to the organizations nature are collected and given to the organization in appreciation for their efforts.
