WHAT DO YOU WANT?
KNOCK, KNOCK, WHO’S THERE? ME! ME WHO? No ME! ME WHO?
NO, I SAID ME? I KNOW YOU DID, BUT I AM ASKING YOU, ME WHO?
MY NAME IS JOE WATSAMAJIMEJIMER AND I’VE BEEN A GOOD
PERSON MY WHOLE LIFE. YOU SAY YOU’VE BEEN A GOOD GUY…
YOUR WHOLE LIFE JOE?
Yes, you heard me correctly, I’m the guy who took people to the grocery
and never charged them, washed their vehicles, called them when they
were sick, sat with them in the hospital, and watched TV with them so they
wouldn’t be alone. That’s nice Joe, how can I help you? WELL, I’d thought
it would be nice to come to heaven, since I’ve been a good person my
whole life and everything. That’s nice to know Joe but being nice won’t get
you into heaven. YOU MEAN AFTER ALL I DID BEING NICE ISN’T GOOD
ENOUGH TO GET ME INTO HEAVEN? WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?
Matthew 7: 13-14
Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way
is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by
it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard,
that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
How many spend their lives believing that good behavior will get them into
heaven one day only to arrive at their last breath and have the surprise of
their life?
Lets examine this text, Matthew 7: 13-14. For this small Biblical passage
can play a major role in our lives. Let’s examine this text so that we do not
take our last breath one day and be surprised… KNOCK, KNOCK. WHO’S
THERE? For the Bible states very clearly that there is a broad road that
leads to eternal hell and damnation and there is a narrow road that leads
to eternity in heaven.
People on the broad road walk through life with their eyes closed as they
walk and become very busy in the material things in the world. They are so
busy in that of the world that the world passes them by until one day they
reach the end of the road which can either be they have hit rock bottom, or
they are at the end of their life. For some the end of the road is a surprise,
for some there is no where else to walk for they have no where else to go
and they have seen the fire of hell approaching.
But on their way, people on the broad road pass by seeing the gate and
the narrow road that leads to eternity in heaven above. Few though decide
to enter through the narrow gate, for the gate does not look easy to enter
and besides…the broad road certainly looks easier and more entertaining.
All are aware of the narrow gate as some laugh, make jokes and mock the
narrow road, which for a non-believer is boring and a waste of time.
That is where the difference lies at this very moment, in the word time. Do
you want to spend your time having fun in that of this world or do you want
to spend your time devoted to God? Both roads lead to eternity, it all
depends upon which eternity you want to spend your eternity in.
II Corinthians 4:18
because we look not to the things that are seen but to the
things that are unseen; for the things that are seen are
transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
The bottom line is this, what do you want to do with your life? Do you want
To have your strength from the world, BRING IT ON, or do you want to live
By Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through him who strengthens me?
It is easy to be of this world, for some it can be difficult to live in this world
and be of God. It is easy to say I belong to a church but it is difficult for
some to say I belong to Christ’s church.
In the end there is a road, a road leading to the burning pits of hell and a
road leading to the glory of heaven. If you think you’ve been through hell
in this lifetime…you ain’t seen nothing yet, for the hell that awaits the
unbeliever is a hell unlike anything known to the naked eye. In the end,
one may say all the nice things that they may but being nice doesn’t get
us into heaven. Being nice and several dollars may get us something to
drink and eat, but niceness doesn’t equate to eternity.
For the broad road is the pathway to hell and eternal separation from God
while suffering in torment in the pits of hell. All who reject Jesus Christ as
their Lord and Savior are making the choice to pay for their own sins.
Romans 6: 20-21
When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regards to
righteousness. But then what return did you get from things
of which you are now ashamed? The end of those things is
death.
For those who travel the narrow road there is another kind of reward.
Romans 6: 23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God
is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Reality is in the eyes of God bad guys can and do finish first for there are
animals in our society who have done awful, awful things unto others, but
even they can finish first, when they recognize they have sinned, realize
that Jesus Christ can forgive you of your sins and follow the first three
letters of the alphabet.
You remember the first three letters of the alphabet,
A, admit I am a sinner
B, believe that Jesus died for our sins
C, confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior
There are some in this world who say that they believe the Bible is not
totally true for it has been written by man and translated in too many
versions to be totally true. I say to them, yes the Bible has been
translated in various versions, yes in those translations the original Greek
and Hebrew have been translated from their original meanings. The
bottom line is the truth!
The truth is (and listen carefully, it is not the translation one may read, it is
the truth), “If you have seen me you have seen my Father. If you know me
you know my Father. I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to
the Father, but by me. It doesn’t matter what language one may speak,
where they live, or their education and or what challenges they may have
in their life. Jesus Christ is Jesus Christ and our Lord and Savior died on a
cross at Calvary so that our sins could be forgiven and for those who ask
for forgiveness of their sins and ask Jesus Christ to be their Lord and
Savior, they are assured of a life everlasting.
In the end of the movie ‘Saving Private Ryan’, Ryan who is now seventy
years old, returns to Normandy, and looks for the grave of Captain Miller,
the man who died saving Ryan during WWII. Ryan is on his knees, the
grave marker is a stark white cross. Ryan addresses Miller, “I’ve tried
every day to live up to what you did for me. You paid the ultimate sacrifice
so that I may be alive today. I hope I’ve lived a life worthy of your sacrifice.”
I pray that if we call ourselves Christians, that we are living our life, with
God’s help, living our life worthy of Jesus sacrifice for us.
This morning I ask of you to come forward and kneel at the kneeling rail.
Kneel if you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and
invite Jesus into your heart and soul. Kneel if you have asked Jesus to be
your Lord and Savior and rededicate your life to Jesus.
Let us pray,
Father, there are some who have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord
And Savior. I pray Father that at this moment they will say, “God, I am
a sinner and I ask you to forgive me of my sins and for Jesus Christ
to not only be my Lord and Savior but I invite Jesus into my heart
and soul at this very moment. Father, there are some who
have prayed the sinners prayer and have asked Jesus
to enter their heart and soul. At this moment may
they re-dedicate their lives to Jesus as they say,
Father, I thank you for your unconditional love,
and for Jesus Christ being my Lord and
Savior. At this time Father I re-dedicate
my commitment to being a follower of
Jesus Christ and to lead others to
Jesus so they may know. Thank
you God for your unconditional
love. May I serve you, may I
be a servant unto not the
world but unto you
Father.
Amen
