Khristmukti

One of my favorite TV shows takes place in a U.S. Military insulation
in Korea and is titled MASH which in military terms means Mobile
Army Surgical Hospital. One episode that sticks in my mind begins
with Corporal Walter Radar O’ Reilly, Major Margaret Hot Lips
O’Houlihan, Hawkeye Pierce, Major Frank Burns, Lt. Blake and Father
Mulcahy. The six of them were sitting around talking when all of a
sudden there was the sound of helicopters landing as they brought
in wounded soldiers from the war zone to be treated. Without blinking
an eye everyone went running to unload the copters and get into their
surgical clothes.

As the doctors came into their surgical unit they did not have to say a
word for even though their faces were covered up to their eyes, their
eyes said it perfectly clear. Their eyes screamed, WAIT A MINUTE!
THIS WOUNDED SOLIDER ISN’T ONE OF OUR BOYS. THIS
WOUNDED SOLDIER ISN’T ONE OF OURS! THIS SOLIDER IS
KOREAN! There was total silence and nobody moved until Lt. Col.
Henry Blake commanded, “WE’VE GOT WORK TO DO HERE
PEOPLE. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO IT IS WE’RE DOCTORS! LET’S
GET MOVING NOW, WE’VE GOT WOUNDED HERE.

Mark 1:4-11

John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching
a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And
there went out to him all the country of Judea, and all the
people of Jerusalem; and they were baptized by him in
the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was
clothed with camel’s hair and had a leather girdle around
his waist, and ate locust and wild honey. And John the
Baptist preached, saying, “After me comes he who is
mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not
worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you
with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and
was baptized by John in the river Jordan. And when
Jesus came out of the water, immediately he saw the
heavens opened and the Sprit descending upon Jesus
like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “Thou art my
beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.”

What does it mean to be God’s Son? In the Old Testament, the people
of Israel are said to be the sons of God (Exodus 4:22; Isaiah 1:2;
Jeremiah 3:22). That meant that God has called them into a special
relationship, a covenant, which is an agreement God, has with His
children that he will never abandon them. Think about it, God doesn’t
care what your race and or culture is, God doesn’t care what your IQ
or Grade Point Average is. God only cares about you and I, with no
strings attached or prerequisites to meet the qualifications. If that
isn’t enough God came to earth in the form of human flesh, Jesus
Christ, to walk among us.

Just like a MASH Unit, we are called as Christians to be there to
Salvage the wounds that have been inflicted unto others by the
bullets and bombs that have detonated and hurt others. But we need
to remember as Christians that the war against the devil is an
ongoing 24/7 war with the influences of this world and the battle of
temptation.

In this world the question has been asked by the medical personnel in
Iraq as in Vietnam and the other wars America has been involved in,
“Why should we work to save the lives of those who are trying to kill
us?” WHY? Because they are human and that is why we as Christians
should try to lead all to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior?
For John the Baptist stated it best, “I have baptized you with water,
but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

For in this world there are those who have a difficult time believing
That they are worthy of being loved, let alone capable of loving
another. And to some we may not look like we have been called by
God to spread the Good News. Now John was clothed with camel’s
hair and had a leather girdle around his waist, and ate locusts and
wild honey.

We all need to remember that God has messengers on this earth of
All ages, races, sizes, with all kinds of looks for God knows they can
relate to whom he has sent them to share the Good News with. And
sometimes there may be a price to pay for leading one to know Jesus
Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Her name is Ms. Sudha Khristmukti, she is a Christian who lives in
India and the thought had came to her mind but she had pushed it
away for she was too timid. Finally after a night of much anxiety and
pondering what to do while in prayer for strength and courage Sudha
decided that she was ready to tell her good friend Dee about the
Good News of Jesus Christ. Sudha was with Dee one day and she
said, “Dee, there is something I need to tell you about” and Sudha
shared with Dee about who Jesus Christ was in her life. Sudha was
shocked when Dee replied; “I wondered when you were going to tell
me about Jesus?”

Because of Sudha, Dee converted from Hinduism to Christianity and
accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and Sudha was no
longer welcomed in to Dee’s family’s home, because she had caused
Dee to be ostracized from her family. Ostracized as John the Baptist
was ostracized for he dedicated his life to Jesus Christ; and he was
called a Nazarite.

Nineteen years later Sudha is still not welcomed into Dee’s family’s
home and Dee is forbidden to visit Sudha and or her family in the year
2006. God taught Sudha what it is to gain by letting go. Through her
experience with her friend Dee, Sudha learned that faith isn’t
something we acquire and then keep it to ourselves. Faith has to be
shared with those we love, with those who do not know the living God.

You see in a land on the other side of this earth, in India, Sudha’s last
name is Khristmukti, which means “Freedom in Christ.”

In a culture as hostile to Christianity as some cultures are in the year
2006, the church’s impulse may be to circle the wagons and keep
strictly to our own kind. But is this the right reaction or should we be
proactive? Being prepared as a MASH unit, Mobile Arms Saving
Hearts, for Jesus Christ…irrelevant of whom they are?

From the wisdom of the Apostle Paul, Acts 19: 1-7

While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the
upper country and came to Ephesus. There Paul found
some disciples. And he said to them, “Did you receive
the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And the disciples
said, “No, we have never even heard that there is a Holy
Sprit.” And Paul said to them, “Into what then were you
baptized?” The disciples said, “Into John’s baptism.”
And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of
repentance, telling the people to believe in one who was
to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this the
disciples were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit
came on them; and they spoke with tongues and
prophesized. There were about twelve of them in all.

What matters is not where we speak but what we say, for there are
Many wounded souls out there waiting to be reached. ‘WE’VE GOT
WOUNDED HERE! IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO THEY ARE WE’VE
BEEN COMMISSIONED BY JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR
TO CARRY ON HIS MINISTRY. LET’S GET GOING!’

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if any one is in Christ, they are a new creation;
the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.

Let us pray,

Father God, there are those in this world who are wounded, who are
hurting for they are human. May we not judge them by their skin, and
or their culture but trust in you Father God. Trust in you for the
strength, the wisdom to share the Good News of the one who
is our salvation, the one who is coming whose sandals I am
not worthy to stoop down and untie. May we remember in
our daily lives Father that we are not the way, the truth
and the life. We are messengers sent to proclaim the
Good News of Jesus Christ and salvation. Jesus
Christ through whom we may have eternal life
and Khristmukti, freedom in Christ.
Amen
