YOUTH HAPPENINGS



Our youth ministry involves youth from all of the churches in the Parish. Several of our churches have youth programs.


NEW YOUTH GROUP FORMED

FISH (Fellowship In Someone's Home), a new Senior High Bible Study Group, has been started. The group is currently meeting at the home of Lynn Arndt on the second and fourth Sundays of every month at 4:00p.m. The group cooks supper and has a Bible study. The group is also starting to plan some fundraisers to raise money for mission trips. They are also collecting money for the Souper Bowl and have gone to work at the Gaines Chapel Food Pantry. They are having a Souper Bowl party with the junior high youth group. They are currently studying Romans and hope to get more youth involved. If you have any questions, please contact Nikki Ross

PARISH YOUTH PROGRAM
FIRST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH AT NOON AT THE SILVIS METHODIST CHURCH
5TH THROUGH 12TH GRADERS
On the first Sunday of each month at noon, several young people between the ages of 5th grade through 12th grade meet at the Silvis United Methodist Church for fellowship and Christian-based activities. This group is involved in many Christian outreach programs and also has social events. On the third Sunday of each month, the group meets to prepare, deliver, and serve a meal at the John Lewis Coffee House.

  • February 4 - Souper Bowl Party for Senior High (location and time tba)
  • February 10 - Youth help with COTC dinner; be there at 4:30p.m.
  • February 11 - John Lewis Mission Meal; Silvis at 2:00p.m.
  • March 3 - The Light, Kids Conference, Washington, IL. Meet at COTC at 6:30p.m.
  • March 11 - Newsboys concert at the Mark
  • March 18 - Harvest Ministries Workshop for jr/sr high
  • March 23-25 - Senior High YAR
  • No mission meal in March because of other events
  • FISH dates are still being set
ACTIVITIES
  • Participated in Souper Bowl by making announcements at their home churches and by doing a scavenger hunt for food.
  • The Souper Bowl party was well attended by both youth and adults.
  • Earned $150 for preparing and serving a meal for a Lay Speaking School.
  • Invited to help with the Feb.27 Lenten Service, are planning to do a Seder Meal on Maundy Thursday and have been asked to lead worshir


A new youth group has been formed with the young people who helped with the Parish Summer Lunch Ministry. This group is composed of youth in 7th grade or older. They will meet twice a month except for months with Holidays. They will continue helping with the Summer Lunch Ministry. They also have had several interesting activities and are planning many more. Bill Siess and Pastor Don Robinson are working with this group.


AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
CHURCH OF THE CROSS
Wednesdays from 2:30-5:30
This is a tutoring program for children in the Church of the Cross area. Adults listen to children read, help them with math and other homework.

HAMPTON AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS
FROM 3:00 - 5:00
Several youth from the Hampton School District receive tutoring help from volunteers from the Hampton United Methodist Church.

SUMMER LUNCH MINISTRY
For seven weeks during the summer and during fall and spring breaks, youth from the Carbon Cliff School District receive a hot lunch and are able to participate in many interesting and meaningful activities.

A PUPPET MINISTRY TEAM has been started for youth 5th grade and older. They meet every Tuesday from 7 to 8p.m. at the Silvis Church. This group uses songs and drama and performs in churches and other places.
