Postcard Ministry

Do you know someone in need of prayer? Someone whose day would be brightened by knowing that others are thinking of them? Pat Kinstrey is starting a “postcard ministry” where she will send a postcard of prayer and encouragement to those in need. If you would like Pat to send a card to someone you know, please fill out a card with their name, address and reason for the request.  We hope this lifts the spirits of everyone involved.

Natural Disaster Relief through UMCOR

Amity Foundation, a member of ACT International and long-time UMCOR and Global Ministries partner, is on the ground helping China earthquake survivors get relief. Amity is working to provide food for about 16,000 people and will distribute 8,000 tarpaulins and quilts with specific focus on the severely affected provinces of Gansu, Sha’anxi and Sichuan. Long-term recovery plans include the rebuilding of 600 homes, 10 schools and five clinics, as well as the rehabilitation of destroyed water and irrigation systems.

To donate, please make checks out to NYAC and put “UMCOR Advance #982450, International Disaster Response, China Earthquake” in the memo line.

Cyclone Nargis, which is the worst natural disaster in Myanmar’s history, has left more than 23,000 dead and another 42,000 missing, according to officials of the Myanmar government. The United Nations says that an estimated 1.5 million persons have been affected and they are concerned that due to lack of safe food and drinking water the death toll could rise above 100,000.

You will not be surprised to learn that UMCOR is already preparing to respond to the need in Myanmar. Working through partners such as Church World Service, one of the few agencies with permits to work in Myanmar, UMCOR is well-positioned to get the aid to the right places to make a difference in the name of Jesus Christ as soon as possible.

To donate, please make checks out to NYAC and put "UMCOR Advance #3019674, Myanmar Emergency" in the memo line.

Remember that one hundred percent of your contribution to UMCOR will go directly to make a difference in the lives of the people affected by these disasters.
