The Thurston United
Methodist Church
United Methodists
are ...
A Covenant People
When you join a Methodist congregation, you
become a member of the total United Methodist connection. Members promise God
and the congregation to uphold the church with their prayers, presence, gifts
and service.
A Diverse Community
United Methodism was formed when the
Methodist Church and Evangelical United Brethren Church merged in 1968. United
Methodists trace their spiritual heritage back to 18th century leaders including
John and Charles Wesley, Jacob Albright, Philip Otterbein, Martin Boehm and
Francis Asbury. The design of our
denominational emblem was conceived shortly after the 1968 union of the
Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church. The dual flames
represent the two denominations coming together through the power of the Holy
Spirit, standing alongside the cross of Christ.
Mission- Oriented Socially Conscious
United Methodist are mission-oriented and
socially conscious. This is important in our faith. We are aware of world events
and strive to help those in need. United Methodists are one in faith and
tradition with Methodist Christians around the world. All persons are welcome in the United Methodist
Church. We are firmly committed to inclusiveness. We celebrate a diversity of
people, ideas and cultures and are enriched by our diverse history. Open hearts,
open minds, open doors...we are the people of The United Methodist Church.
Thurston United Methodists
are ...

A Loving People
When you attend or join the Thurston United
Methodist Church you become a member of a large extended family that will care
about you, pray for you, and love you. Strangers become friends...who become
family. If you are looking for a new church home, why not stop in someday,
better yet why not stop in this coming Sunday and check us out. Open hearts,
open minds, open doors...we are The Thurston United Methodist Church.
A Caring Community
We've been around a long time. The church was
founded in 1815. The present structure was built in 1954. Our membership is
184. The church is
located on State Route 256 in the Village of Thurston, just 2 miles east of
State Route 37. In 2001 the congregation purchased additional property for
future expansion and in 2004 we acquired a parsonage. We plan on being around for a long, long time. Open hearts,
open minds, open doors...we are The Thurston United Methodist Church.
Mission- Oriented Socially Conscious
We believe in and practice our mission statement:
The Thurston United Methodist Church shall be a beacon of light in darkness
reaching out to all with an open door to God, to share the joy and love of
Christ forever. We would love to share the joy of knowing Jesus Christ with you
and your family. All persons are welcome in our church. Open hearts, open
minds, open doors...we are The Thurston United Methodist Church.
The Ministry of All Christians
United
Methodists believe that "all Christians are called to minister wherever Christ
would have them serve and witness." At Thurston UMC, we are all ministers in
service to God and our neighbor. Open hearts, open minds, open doors...we are
The Thurston United Methodist Church.
