A Word From The President Thebe Worden

April and May have been busy months for Texas Conference, United Methodist Women.

I want to thank each of you that were able to attend our Colors of God meetings in Wiley College, Marshall, and Gethsemane UMC, Houston.  Each of the programs was different, but with the same message.  We looked back on the history of our Charter for Racial Justice; we sang songs of healing, laughed at an “obstacle race,” and heard personal experiences of racial injustices through out the past years.  We enjoyed a delicious lunch and fellowshipped with our sisters in Christ.  Many thanks to all that worked to make both programs memorable occasions.

I attended three days at United Methodist Church General Conference in Ft. Worth.  Thanks to United Methodist Women who helped make it possible for me to attend.  It was exciting to sit in for one of the delegates for a while.  I will always cherish the experience, some good and some rather sad.  Thanks to those you who wrote letters to the delegates which I believe helped United Methodist Women come through untarnished.

Our UMW Annual Luncheon at Texas Annual Conference was a great success with over 300 in attendance.  The theme was “Entering the Kingdom of God,” with emphasis on children and youth.  Rev. Steve Woody, keynote speaker, was fabulous.  We were entertained with praise music and dance by children and youth from Windsor Village UMC.  Hanna James from the teen group at Aldersgate UMW gave a beautiful prayer.

I hope to see you at Lon Morris College at our Cooperative School of Christian Mission.  Golf carts will be there!  We know the college now and are ironing out the problems of a new location.  The studies this year are timely, interesting, and inspiring.  Our study leaders are outstanding.

I thank you for the honor and privilege of serving you this past year.

May the Lord watch over each of you until we meet again,

     Thebe
