Choir
Adult Choir
The chancel choir is comprised of a well-rounded group of singers who enjoy praising God with their voices.
Under the direction of Mrs. Lytra Williams-Jones, the choir meets for rehearsal on Tuesday evenings, from 7:30 till 9:00, in Scudder Hall.
Our choir director holds a BA in Music Education from Marshall University, and a Masters from Jersey City State University.
(That degree is in Early Childhood Education, which comes in handy with a few of the choir members.)
As always, we are also looking for a few new choral members.
If you have any interest in joining this organization and showing the Lord what you can do with the talents you have been given, stop by on a Tuesday evening.
Children's Choirs
There are actually two children's choirs. The Wesley Choir and Joy Choir both perform on the third Sunday of the month. The Joy Choir is made up of cherubi (young children), while the Wesley Choir is their slightly older counterpart.
The Joy Choir meets on Saturday mornings at 10:00, and frolics in the playground afterwards.
The members of the Wesley Choir meet on Sundays, right after church.
Joyful Noise
On the third Sunday of the month, attendees at the service are also blessed with music that sets the toes a-tappin' and the fingers a-snappin'. Joyful Noise uses prerecorded music as a backdrop for its musical numbers. Members of this group range in age from... (it is impolite to mention people's ages).
United Methodist Men
The UMM meet once a month for food, devotions and to figure out what task they are going to do next. They are an integral part of the church, organizing everything from cleaning out the church attic to feeding the congregation at the summer barbecue.
United Methodist Women
The UMW are a vital force in our church. They put together fundraisiers, hold mother-child luncheons, and host informative meetings on such initiatives as the Methodist missionary programs. The UMW also has three offshoot groups: Dorcas Circle, Hyla Circle and Evening Circle. These groups meet to study biblical and topical issues.
Youth
The Youth Group (yes, that is their name) meets weekly for fun and fellowship. This includes going to movies and sporting events. Members of the group spent a week this summer helping families fix their homes (a la Habitat for Humanity).
Handcrafters
The Handcrafters are a group of men and women who get together to make crafts that can be sold either at the church, or through other outlets. They create unique items for birthdays, anniversaries, showers weddings, and especially for people on your Christmas gift list. The proceeds from the sale of these "labors of love" go exclusively to our church for non-budgeted needs. Their work on dolls is phenomenal, and they have sold their wares at booths in major Bergen County malls during the holiday season.
Girl Scouts
The Teaneck United Methodist Church is home to two Girl Scout troops, helping to foster the spirit of living and learning that is the Girl Scout way.
Boy Scouts
The Teaneck United Methodist Church is home to one Boy Scout Troop. Faith is an integral part of the scouting experience. Young men are taught to have faith in themselves and in others, as well as in God.
Shelter Our Sisters
TUMC supports this vital program, through which church members and visitors donate food and other items to women and children in shelters.
Sydney J. Walker Memorial Learning Center
The Sydney J. Walker Memorial Learning Center was founded by the TUMC in 1973 as a mission outreach program. Throughout the years, this daycare center has grown in size and quality. It is now considered by state officials to be one of the best in Bergen County.
