In 1881, at the 2nd Quarterly Conference of the Green Bay Circuit [Hebron, Prairie city (now Van Wert), and Smyrna] a resolution was passed to change the name of the circuit to the Weldon Circuit. William Bodkin, George Mitchell and A.M. Roach were elected trustees of a church at Weldon. Sunday School and church services were held in the depot, bank building and other places until a church could be built. That same year the Methodists and Disciples united in raising money to build a Methodist Episcopal Church with the understanding that when the Disciples were ready to build their church the Methodists would assist them, which they did. The Reverend D. O. Stuart was the first pastor of the Weldon Circuit. The lots for the church and the parsonage were donated by L.P. Sigler of Leon. The church, built at a cost of $1,877.77 was dedicated in August of 1882 by President Park of Simpson College. The parsonage was moved from Green Bay to Weldon in 1882, and was first occupied by the Reverend W. W. Danner. Leander Matheney was the first Sunday School Superintendent. During this time period the town of Leroy was added to the circuit. In 1900-1902 the parsonage was rebuilt and in 1906 a new church building was started at a cost of $6000. In 1915 a basement was built beneath the church. In 1925 The circuit was served by Alta Nichols who may have been the first woman pastor for this circuit. The stained glass windows were last releaded about 1960 by the Carl Kline family.
