Solomon Yoked Parish Today
The link joining the United Presbyterian and the United Methodist churches in Solomon, Kansas was forged on April 17, 1977 by an affirmative vote for a Constitution of the Solomon Yoked Parish.
Our parish had its beginnings in the late fall of 1974 when the pastors and the governing bodies of the two local churches sanctioned a study of ways to cooperate in the ministry to the Solomon community, and appointed a joint committee to investigate. A resulting two-year provisional agreement was ratified by congregational meetings in March 1975.
The first pastor of our parish, Rev. Russell Calcote, was appointed June 8, 1975. The second, Rev. Charles K. Farmer, was called and became our pastor on July 1, 1979.
At the end of 2000 our United Methodist membership stood at 76, and our Presbyterian membership at 87. We had an average, by the end of 2000, of 76 attending our worship service.
It is the mission of Solomon Yoked Parish to proclaim the Good News of forgiveness and salvation in Jesus Christ to the Solomon community, Dickinson County, the state of Kansas, and wherever God's Holy Spirit may lead us.
Our worship service, which is at 9:30 AM every Sunday morning, is traditional, but never boring. The people are an active part of the worship service. The worship service is also often taped for later play on the local community cable access channel.
We invite you to come and join us as we praise the Lord, and seek to share his Good News with all people.
