The
charter
is the connecting link of the mens units with the United Methodist
Church and the national organization. The
charter is issued one time and recertified each year by the General Commission
on United Methodist Men.
Recertification notices
are sent out in mid September each year. This is normally in advance of
presidents information packet.
Note: Recertifications
received between October and December are updated for the next year.
$60 Charter Funds
are Used for:
- MensNews
- UMMen magazine
- Presidents
packets
- Materials and aids
for chartered units
- Introductory packets
- GCUMM website
- Administrative
costs including postage,
telephone, etc.
Just
the Facts
- Presidents
packets are mailed to the chartered units at the church address to the
attention of the president or secretary of UMMen
- Charter reports
are mailed to district, conference & jurisdiction presidents in
January, April and October.
- Charters are recertified
on a calendar year basis (Jan-Dec).
- Charters and recertifications
are normally processed within 3 weeks.
- Recertification
reminders sent October, February, & May.
- Presidents and
secretaries of chartered mens units receive MensNews and the UMMen
magazine

Charter
Tips and Information
- Reports available
on request, hard-copy, diskette, email.
- Labels in any format
and on diskette may be requested.
- Addresses of local
presidents and secretaries are maintained in the UMM database and updated
yearly or when GCUMM is notified.
- District, conference
and jurisdiction presidents addresses are kept in the database and updated
regularly.
It is important
for these changes to be reported to the GCUMM charter administrator.
Only 1 in 6 Congregations
are Chartered
- Funding from charters
is NOT adequate to:
- reach all men
in the entire UM church
- develop, promote
and deploy new mens ministry resources
- communicate
with all churches, clergy and men
- fully support
agency responsibilities
