History of
Sweetser U.M.C.
In 1874, John and Caroline Hubert deeded part of their land for a church to be built on the northwest corner of Delphi Pike and Main Street of Sweetser (where the fire station now stands). The church was completed in 1875. As the church prospered, and membership grew, the need was felt for a larger and more spacious building.
The building was moved into the heart of Sweetser. Remodeled and provided with new furniture, the building was dedicated in 1919. Among the gifts for the new building was a set of stained glass windows. These beautiful stained glass windows are a focal point of interest in our church. Due to their clearness, true color and exactness of figures, these windows are priceless.

This memorial plaque is located on the east side of the church. It honors the memory of the early trustees of the church at it's original dedication and remodeling. Trustees 1874: James Props, Samuel Bechtel, Calvin Smith, James Thompson, Moses Harter, Joseph Cravens, J.E. Cary, Allen Meek, John Hubert. Trustees 1918: Leslie Mills, Wm. Small, Geo. Williamson, C.W. Snyder, Amos M. Stevens, Ulyssess W. Nuss, Jacob R. Fisher, Alva Williamson. |

Preparing for the new century, we continue to maintain and upgrade our facilities. The church is still located in the heart of Sweetser at 413 South Main, two blocks south of the stop light from Highway 18.
