  ALCOLYTES

Photo of Alcolytes The Alcolyte program at Summit has been in existence for may years with some of our Acolytes having raised children who are now Acolytes. Acolyte means "helper", which is exactly what our Acolytes do.

The Crucifer brings in the brass cross, the Banner Bearer brings in the appropriate banner for the season, and the Lighters bring in the flame to light the alter candles. The Lighters also present the offering at the alter. They also assist the pastor with communion, baptisms or any other sacraments.

A child can become an Acolyte when he or she is six years old, and usually serve until they graduate from high school. Acolytes wear red robes with white toppers until they are in the seventh grade. Then they become a "Master Acolyte" and wear a white robe with a rope belt. Master Acolytes help in training the younger acolytes and help if an Acolyte needs assistance during the service. Our Acolytes are responsible for keeping the brass candle sticks and cross polished. An Acolyte can earn a cross necklace when he or she has served as Acolyte 10 times.

It is an honor and a priviledge to serve as an Alcolyte, and we are very proud of all of our Alcolytes.

Sponsors for the program are Carolyn Watson and Georgiann Floyd. Any child wishing to become an Acolyte is welcomed and encouraged to join in this worthwhile program. Please contact a Sponsor for more information and training.
