Greetings
in the name of living Christ who gives us the gift of the church and
calls us to discover Christian community together!
I have the privilege to serve as pastor of this vibrant church
community. I have been pastoring United Methodist Churches since 1984
when I was assigned, as a seminary student, to a small rural
congregation in northeast Ohio. From there my wife and I moved to
northeastern New York State to serve the small churches, Peasleeville,
Schuyler Falls and Morrisonville. Near the end of my nine year tenure
there, I also took on responsibility for the Protestant Campus Ministry
at SUNY Plattsburgh. In 1996 we were given the blessing of moving to
Vermont to serve in Essex Center and then, in 2007, our latest
blessing, to serve in Shelburne.
It has been my firm belief through my over twenty years of ministry
that the church should be a place of boundless love and unqualified
welcome for all who come to it. It is also a place of spiritual nurture
where our souls are fed by the presence of the Holy Spirit. I love the
liturgy and worship of the church, both ancient and modern and am a
life-long student of scripture. I am equally delighted to be leading
spirit-filled worship or guiding students into a deeper understanding
of the Bible.
If you have taken time to visit this website, it is my hope, and the
hope of all of us here, that you will take the next step and join us in
worship. It is our mission to serve and welcome. It is our prayer that
you will find us to be a loving community that will bring you to a
closer relationship with Christ.
God bless you! Rev. Gregory Smith
