Missions Committee:
The Missions Committee of the Shelburne United Methodist Church is currently involved in several projects, reaching out to our local community as well as other communities where our support is needed. Below are just a few of the missions we support.

JUMP: the Joint Urban Mission Project, provides support to local individuals and families in crisis through pastoral care, referrals, emergency assistance, and advocacy. The Shelburne United Methodist Church’s Mission Committee helps JUMP with its continuing need for financial assistance, as well as donations of dish detergent, food, children’s books, etc. Two Mission Committee members serve as volunteers with JUMP as well.

KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25: 35-36
Christ calls us to step out in faith and to serve. Here within the Shelburne United Methodist Church there are those who have and continue to go to prison to answer Christ’s call. The purpose of Kairos is to bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with them, and to assist the incarcerated in transition to become a productive citizen.

COTS: the Committee On Temporary Shelter, provides support in the Burlington area for individuals and families who are homeless. COTS also provides financial support to those who need rent money to avoid eviction, as well as a place to stay while in transition. The Missions Committee is active in supporting COTS, especially by provided participants and financial support to its annual COTS Walk.

VERMONT CHURCH PROJECT:
The Vermont Church Project is involved in building a house from scratch in an area of Mississippi hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. The goal of the Project is to have participation from twelve local churches, each committing $4,000 for building materials/supplies as well as 5 or more individuals to provide the needed labor. The Missions Committee and congregation of Shelburne United Methodist Church is committed to this project and providing both financial support and manual labor.
