Shelburne Food Shelf is a local non-profit that provides food to individuals and families in need in our own community.  We support the food shelf financially, as well as provide ongoing donations of non-perishable items, such as peanut butter, cereal and canned goods.  We also provide volunteers to stock shelves and distribute food each month.

Joint Urban Ministry Project (JUMP) is an interfaith ministry which provides pastoral care, referrals, emergency assistance and advocacy for persons with low incomes.  We provide dish detergent and Cheerios, as well as financial support, on an ongoing basis.
Also check out their website: https://jumpvt.org/Home.html.

Burlington Dismas House is a transitional residence providing support to recently released prisoners, helping them to develop their social skills.  Besides financial support, we also provide a meal once a month to residents, sharing food and fellowship.

Shelburne Bay Ministries is a monthly outreach program to provide spiritual support to those living at Shelburne Bay who are not able to leave but who are seeking Christian support.

Women Helping Battered Women is a safe harbor for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.  We provide financial support as well as collect school supplies for children living in their shelters so that they can start their school year feeling special and loved.

COTS Walk is an annual event that raises funds and awareness for the homeless in our community.  The Committee on Temporary Shelter is a Burlington area nonprofit providing shelter to homeless individuals and families.  We have walkers who participate and we sponsor them through financial donations.

Camp Agape is a summer camp program for Vermont children whose parents are incarcerated, providing a safe and loving environment for them to enjoy various camp activities, have new experiences, and develop new friendships.  We provide financial support as well as volunteers to work with the kids each summer.  Camp Agape letter

Christmas Missions include Mitten Tree which provides presents to children who might otherwise not receive anything for Christmas, Stockings for Woodside (a project through Partners in Service – we also provide Easter baskets each spring) which fills Christmas morning stockings for kids residing at the Woodside youth detention facility, and the Angel Fund which provides financial support to children who cannot afford certain school and extracurricular items or activities.  We also have an alternative giving table during Advent, selling stocking stuffers to support missions like Camp Agape and JUMP.

PARTNERS IN SERVICE (PINS) - EASTER BASKETS AND CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS FOR WOODSIDE provides stockings and baskets of goodies for kids residing at the Woodside youth detention facility so that they know that someone cares about them.  Volunteers to purchase items and fill stockings and baskets (lists available).

Burlington Emergency Shelter’s gas can collection project is an ongoing fundraising tool to raise money and awareness for the homeless in our area.  Red gas cans can be found around the church for cash donations.

Prayer Shawl Ministry provides warmth and love to those in physical and/or emotional need.  Our volunteers knit shawls on an ongoing basis.

KAIROS Project is a mission helping maximum security prisoners find healing and forgiveness through Christ’s love.  While we provide ongoing financial support, we also have volunteers who participate in weekend retreats with these men, bringing Christ’s message to those seeking comfort.

Nationally & Internationally

Volunteers in Mission (VIM) is a program sending United Methodists all over the world to do hands-on volunteer work.  Most recently, we have sent people to Mississippi and Texas to work on building houses for Hurricane Katrina victims, as well as Nicaragua to work with our missionary Belinda Forbes. For information on upcoming trips you can also check out the Vermont District website by clicking on this link. http://www.neumc.org/districts/detail/9

SUNDAY SCHOOL/YOUTH PROGRAMS are numerous and involve the children and youth in raising awareness and funds for various Christian missions locally,  nationally and globally.  Most recently our youth have participated, through RIPPLE, in mission projects around the Burlington area.  Other projects we have supported are: Heifer Project Intl.,

Covenant Relationship with Missionary Belinda Forbes is through the General Board of Global Ministries and is a financial commitment to support a missionary in Nicaragua on an ongoing basis.  Belinda is a trained dentist and works through GBGM and local agencies to provide dental as well as general health care and education to the most rural and underserved populations. Newsletters are posted online at belindagbgm.blogspot.com

American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days is an annual event to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.  Altar flowers are purchased by congregants and baked goods are sold on a particular Sunday each year.

UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is a not-for-profit international humanitarian aid organization providing relief from hunger and disasters, and teaching peace.  We participate in various UMCOR projects such as flood buckets and health kits, which are hand-ons ways for us to help others by collecting specific items needed to fill flood buckets (cleaning supplies used in times of disaster) and health kits (emergency personal care items) that can be sent anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice.  Check them out on the web: http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/.

THE ADVANCE   check out their website:  http://new.gbgm-umc.org/advance/

Habitat for Humanity, VT:  Looking for a special way to honor someone on their birthday, anniversary, or any special occasion?  Habitat of VT suggest a gift that not only remembers your loved ones in a specail way, but also reaches out to help those in need.  The poster in the Mission corner of church offers cards if you would like 1.) to let those you love know that you would appreciate this kind of gift, and 2.) to notify those you are honoring that a gift has been made in their name.  What better way to celebrate life, love and accomplishments than with such a giving gift.  It is a WIN WIN approach to gift giving.  We are looking for voluntees to provide workers at the Charlotte house for snacks and beverage on Tues., Thurs., & Saturdays in September.  Please see Bob Woodworth if you can help.  Thank you.
