Coming Events . . .SCHOLARSHIP: Students wishing to apply for a scholarship may pick up an application from the church office. In order to be considered for a scholarship the application should be completed and returned to the church office no later than June 1, 2009. Thank you. The Scholarship Committee 5TH SUNDAY GATHERING: The Hutchinson District United Methodist Men are having a 5th Sunday Gathering at the Eastside United Methodist Church, 1520 East Broadway, Newton, KS, on May 31, 2009, at 5:30 pm. The cost is $5.00 per person and the program is “12 Step Bible Study” presented by Bob Ireland. For reservations, please call Mike Foster at 620-694-1695 or 620-662-8199 by May 27, 2009. PLAYGROUND FUND RAISER: The Salem Servants Sunday School class is having a Sloppy Joe Fund Raiser in order to help purchase a fence for the SUMC playground. This sloppy joe dinner will be held Sunday, June 14, 2009, in the FLC immediately following the traditional worship service. VBS: VBS station leaders: All supply requests need to be turned into the church office, Heather Moore or Lynnette Redington by JUNE 1. June 15 – Early VBS Registrations due for shirt orders! June 16, 7:00 PM – All VBS Volunteer Orientation Remember the dates: Camp EDGE is coming July 19 – 23 here at Salem UMC. RELAY FOR LIFE: The youth group is participating in the Relay for Life in support of the fight against cancer on Friday, June 19, beginning at 6:30 am at Newton High School. We have two teams, a boy team and a girl team. The next three Sundays we will be collecting donations and to make things a little more interesting we are going to have a challenge, boys against girls. There will be two collection containers. The goal is to collect the most “CHANGE”, while all the money collected will go to the American Cancer Society any bills that are placed in a container will subtract from the “CHANGE” total, therefore adding dollar bills will give more money to the American Cancer Society but will also lower the running total for that specific team. So don’t forget to bring your change with you to the church and help out the team of your choice while supporting a great cause! THANK YOU: The youth group would like to say how much they appreciate all the support of the car wash. It was a great success, raising $980.00. This will go a long way toward the youth Summer mission trip. THANKS!
