MINISTRIES

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." ~ Matthew 18:20

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

United Methodist Women of Smithville engages in a full range of study and ministry projects. One exciting new regular feature of the UMW is the prayer shawl ministry where UMW make shawls that are constantly prayed over and present them to ailing members.

The UMW meets throughout the year and women of all ages are invited to attend. The meetings are held on different days and times in order to include all ladies regardless of their schedule. For more information, call the church office, or send us an email by clicking
here.

COLLEGE STUDENTS

Our college students are important to us. Our ministry to college students includes sending them cards and goodies to mark special occasions. For more information or to volunteer your help, call the office, or send us an email by clicking here.

SMITHVILLE COMMUNITY BREAKFAST

On the first Saturday of every month, Smithville opens its doors to the community for a hearty breakfast!

Breakfast is served from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. The cost for a full breakfast is $3.00 per person. The menu will once again include scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, French toast sticks and syrup, yogurt, cereal, bagels, plus hot coffee and warm fellowship. Bring your family, extended family, neighbors, and friends.

Help Wanted! Sign up to help! Contribute your skills, and a little of your time, to become part of the Smithville team that plans and executes our monthly Community Breakfasts. All types of skills are needed - if you can smile, you can be a Greeter, if you can count, you can be the Cashier, if you can walk through the Dunkirk Park-and-Ride some afternoon, you can be a Publicist. In addition, we need Cooks, Hostesses, Servers, Set-up and Clean-up people, and Managers. Come join the fun!!

On the Friday evening before the breakfast, we need willing hands to help arrange tables, chairs, and equipment. We meet at church at 7:30 pm on Friday evening. After the breakfast is over, around 10 a.m., there are always opportunities to help with the clean-up of the Fellowship Hall and the Kitchen area. Come before 10 a.m., have a hearty breakfast, then stay and help with the clean-up activities.

Looking for an excuse to get some fresh air and exercise? Why not help distribute flyers to local businesses and in parking areas around Dunkirk Town Center? Let us know your availability, and we will provide flyers for you to place on car windshields or leave with local merchants.

Look for the sign up sheet on the bulletin board near our new nursery room, or hunt down Bob Green, or send an email by clicking here.

SCRAPBOOKING

Do you want to set time aside to work on your craft? If so, join us for our next Scrapbooking/Craft night. Bring whatever hobby you are working on – cardmaking, scrapbooking, sewing, knitting, crochet, photos – and have fellowship with one another as you are working on it.

Our usual time is the third Friday of the month, from 6:00 p.m. till midnight. Sometimes we schedule an all-day marathon. Watch the calendar of events!

RELAY FOR LIFE

In 2009, Smithville participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life for the first time. This promises to become an annual event. For more information, send us an email by clicking here, or go to the Relay For Life website by clicking here. You can register to join the team, you donate to Smithville's team online, or you can get information about the event.

BOY SCOUTS & CUB SCOUTS

Smithville sponsors a Boy Scout Troop and a Cub Scout Pack. Boy Scout Troop 789, for boys age 11 to 18, meets on Tuesday evenings in the Ministry Center. Cub Scout Pack 789, for boys age 5 to 11, meets in small groups, called "dens", on various nights in various locations. For more information, send us an email by clicking here.

MINISTRY IN ACTION

Various other activities are scheduled, where you can bring a friend to a fun, non-threatening activity. Every December, Smithville sponsors a Gingerbread House workshop, and Christmas caroling. In May, we offer a Ladies' Retreat, a fun and refreshing day away.
