Partnering to Further God's Kingdom on Earth
St. Paul's and Mabelreign United Methodist Church in Harare, Zimbabwe, have entered into a partnership agreement of mutual support in their missions to proclaim God's word and further the work of the Lord in this world. This type of partnering is an initiative of our Annual Conference, and this exciting commitment followed a visit by our previous pastor to Zimbabwe in the summer of 1999. While in Harare, she was able to visit Mabelreign and participate in the Sunday worship service.
Partnering includes the sharing of prayer, time, talents and resources, as they are available. Mabelreign is in the challenging process of building a sanctuary to meet the needs of their growing congregation, and the congregation has an active outreach program to persons in their community.
In the Spring of 2000, St. Paul's was honored to be visited by Ms. Josephine Gurira from the Mabelreign congregation, who brought greetings from the congregation and from the Reverend Chiza, pastor of Mabelreign UMC.
On October 13, 2002, at the Reisterstown United Methodist Church, there was "An Afternoon Celebration" for the benefit of Zimbabwe United Methodist Ministries. This program was sponsored by the Baltimore West District. There was music and comedy (including "Iceberg Flame") and homemade cookies for sale. A short educational session waspresented about Zimbabwe and Africa University. A free-will offering was received.
